COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Doppelbock is exactly that - a classic German style lager and Upright’s first. Using a new Vienna malt from Briess Maltings of Wisconsin, along with darker and richer varieties, this lager has aromas and flavors similar to a fruit bread. It’s residual sugar is balanced by a slight caramel malt edge and light acidity. Fermented with two yeast strains for extra complexity. 8.85%

On tap at brewery. Pours a dark amber with off-white foam. Smells set and malty. Tastes sweet with a nice dark fruit and a hunt is bourbon.

Really nice brew. On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark purple/brown color with a small white head. The aroma is big chocolates, fruit and some ash. The flavor is big chocolates, fruit, nutty, dark bitter chocolates, a bit of smoke. Very smooth. Big.

Draft at Upright a few weeks back. From notes. Pours clear, light brown with minimal head. Aroma: caramel, dark fruit, candy. Palate: Medium/full body, slick texture. Taste: Some char, lots of fruit; moderately sweet. Overall: it’s cool that Upright splits their attention between sours/saisons/barrels and lagers.

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2014 Draught at Grain and Gristle. Thick malty and spicy nose. Ruby color, with good lace. Sweet sticky rich toasty malt / light spiciness and alc. warmth / sweet and smooth finish and then it floats away. Medium body. Very nicely done. Tastes both true to style and amped up a bit higher than normal for the style.
