COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pinot Barrel Four was our second batch. We took the recipe for the Four and sent the beer into some oak barrels graciously donated by La Bete winery of McMinnville, topping them up with a small amount of Oregon cherry puree along with lactobacillus and brettanomyces claussenii to encourage more acidity and aromatic complexity in the finished beer. Half of the batch was blended and kegged and can be found at a few specialty bars while the remaining half is still maturing in the barrels and will likely be bottled at some point towards the end of 2009.

750mL thanks to writerjberg and Travlr. Rating #100 for this beer. Black and red label with some soft core pornography. Pours very light pink, sparkling, with weak foam looking like rose wine. Nose is juicy, freshly baked cherry pie. Really amazing kriek nose. Taste is bright lactic acid, loads of lime juice, juicy red cherry. Overall a simple, bright, refreshing kriek.

Poured from a 750ml bottle. Apricot, soft berries, soft delicate malts. A very interesting well balanced beer.

Draft at Upright a few weeks ago - from notes. Pours murky burnt copper with no head. Aroma: hella sexy. Cherry, oak, tart, funk; cheese and poop in all the good ways. Taste: moderately sweet, really well-balanced tartness; cherry, funk, and a tiny bit of sweetened cereal in the end. Light body, texture is a bit thin. Overall: my favorite of the day so far. This alone is enough of a reason to stop in for a visit.

On trap at brewery. Pours a lightly hazy amber red. Smells strongly of site cherries and lemon. Tastes sour of cherries with a hint of wood. Nice and tart, though not terribly complex.

On tap at the brewery - This was quite the beauty. Pours reddish with a very light head. The aroma is quite tart with lots of cherries, light barrel, nice souring with a bit of vinegar. It has a medium crisp body with mild carbonation. The flavor has lots of raspberry and cherry. There is mild sourness compared to the aroma, but its there and lots of thick smooth fruit. The finish has rich cherries and mild tartness. Really enjoyable.

Draft 12 oz pour at Upright. Drinking in the same room where all the magic happens. Clear golden pour with no head. Heavy cherry pie like aroma. Tart cherry up front, with some softer peach and apricot. Very similar to an exceptional cherry lambic. Very nicely done.

Bottle. I discovered this in my cellar recently. I had it squirreled away and had used a metallic pen to write "2011" on it. The label has the woman reclining on the sofa whilst wearing a red bra. Colour...slightly pinkish but generally a light amber with a thin head. Nose...very fruity and zesty with sweet spices. Palate...fruity, zippy, zesty, tippy top, rollin’ along, singin’ a song and generally fabulous with loads of cherries. The mid palate is dry and spicy and the finish is long and quite gleeky.

From tap at Upright, Portland. Aroma is oak, bretty funk, tart fruits, apricot, very dry, hint of vanilla, red fruits. Light sweet and above moderate sour with a very dry finish. Body is medium. Very oaky and complex, delicious.
