COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pinot Barrel Four was our second batch. We took the recipe for the Four and sent the beer into some oak barrels graciously donated by La Bete winery of McMinnville, topping them up with a small amount of Oregon cherry puree along with lactobacillus and brettanomyces claussenii to encourage more acidity and aromatic complexity in the finished beer. Half of the batch was blended and kegged and can be found at a few specialty bars while the remaining half is still maturing in the barrels and will likely be bottled at some point towards the end of 2009.

750ml bottle from cavemanlawyer, thanks James! 2011 Vintage. Pours a cloudy orange colored body with thin, frothy, slightly creamy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma has a nice sourness up front with a bit of a citric and woody note followed by some bretty funk, tart cherries with just a slight sweetness, some acidity, and a bit of a vinous note. Flavor is similar. Clean, lactic sourness up front with some vinous and citric elements, wood, and funky brett. Cherries grow towards the end with a nice tartness and just a slight sweet note. Finishes clean, fruity, tart, somewhat funky, and dry before leaving a fairly lengthy aftertaste. Light body and a soft, somewhat lively, moderate carbonation. Overall, a really complex and enjoyable sour. Dry and clean with a nice fruity tartness, bretty funk, pleasant cherry note, and vinous wood presence. Delicious beer.

Upright Brewing, Portland. Rose-tinged dark clear orange. Small foam. Fantastic fruity-tart nose. Nice mixed ferment tart body, light up front but with some leathery cherry depths. Some barrel funk, cherry, yeast. Lots of minerals and oak (naturally they say this precisely in their description). Delicious.

Bottle. I discovered this in my cellar recently. I had it squirreled away and had used a metallic pen to write "2011" on it. The label has the woman reclining on the sofa whilst wearing a red bra. Colour...slightly pinkish but generally a light amber with a thin head. Nose...very fruity and zesty with sweet spices. Palate...fruity, zippy, zesty, tippy top, rollin along, singin a song and generally fabulous with loads of cherries. The mid palate is dry and spicy and the finish is long and quite gleeky.

On tap at OIBF16. Booklet said it was 4Play/Rose Blend, but that seems near impossible reading that description (55 bottles). Clear golden colour, white head. Aroma is very funky, tart, lemons, fruity, almost Cantillon-like, light floral. Flavour is floral, fruity, funky, sour, lemons. Light bodied. Good.

On tap @ Upright. Pours clear pale golden orange with thin white head. Aroma is tart cherries, light leathery red wine barrel notes. Taste is super crisp tartness up front, lacking in notable sour pucker though. Fresh cherries sit in the background. Excellent beer.

Draft 12 oz pour at Upright. Drinking in the same room where all the magic happens. Clear golden pour with no head. Heavy cherry pie like aroma. Tart cherry up front, with some softer peach and apricot. Very similar to an exceptional cherry lambic. Very nicely done.
