3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark chestnut pour with a 3-4 finger, creamy yellow-beige head. Aroma is loaded with fruity stone fruit and berry notes, dry roasted nuts and spicy hops. Flavor is nutty stone fruity up front followed by husky grain, roast, dark chocolate, burnt sugar and bready notes, pine, spicy hops and sharp fruity esters to the finish. Medium body, fairly dry throughout and lightly carbonated. Pretty good overall, lots of stuff going on here, but it doesn’t really fit together that well.
It pours brown with a brown head. The head is full and head retention is excellent. There are a lot of aroma notes in balance. Chocolate, caramel, rye, and wood are all well represented. There are some background notes of cherry and low citrus notes. There is a bit of dank in the background notes as well. The rye flavors are the most prominent with chocolate, caramel and wood given complex flavor development. The are some cherry notes and a hint of citrus in the background. It is moderately full in the body and kind of creamy. The finish is smooth and semi dry. Overall, this is a wonderful rye beer with a good combination of flavors to support the overall presentation. thorongil2 (3566) - , Ontario, CANADA - JAN 14, 2018
(Tap) clear, bright dark orange amber colour with a small, brown head; aroma of soy sauce, spice; balanced flavour with a long, light bitter finish Foffern (2044) - Bodø, NORWAY - DEC 18, 2017
On tap at Baileys Taproom, Portland, Oregon. Pours a clear mahogany colour. A little careful aroma of roasted malt, nuts, chocolate and subtle dried fruit. Fruity flavour at first with sweet malt, bread, caramel, fenols and ends dry with grassy hops and wood. Has a slick mouth feel, medium body and a light to medium bitterness. Lot of things is going on in this beer. Tasteful anyway. Suttree (6537) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - SEP 1, 2017
Bottle from McSrooges. Man, how cool is it that I can get this brewery in Knoxville? This beer is a mess. A sloppy, delicious mess. Unlike a lot of beers that a lot of different flavors this one lets every note can of pop up and play a role in the overall experience. Cherry, rye, maple, pepper, maybe some oak, as well. Nice stuff! melush (4957) - SPAIN - AUG 1, 2017
