Bottle. Pours a deep hazy amber with an off-white head that remains throughout the beer. Aroma has a very strong port note wit a bit of underlying earth grains and funk. Flavor is barrel forward as well with some underlying tartness, earthy grains and a hint of funk. Thorpe429 (5035) - , Illinois, USA - APR 22, 2012
Bottle at a recent Upright Sole Composition tasting. Served in a Mikasa tulip.
Pours a somewhat-cloudy amber-tawny color with a small off-white head that eventually fall to a thin cap, leaving behind a bit of spotty lacing.
The nose carried a bit of brown sugar and toffee with some light yeast in the background. Some dark fruit and earth character with just a touch of tobacco. The barrel character came through with mostly bourbon, though there was a bit of port in the background. Some raisin there as well. Long duration with a very light acidity and a touch of bitterness.
Medium body with light carbonation and a semi-dry finish. The barrel character was quite nice in this one and I really liked the finish, though I could have gone for a bit more port character. All in all, a nice and interesting beer that is worth seeking out. j12601 (12000) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - FEB 24, 2012
Bottle number 58/59 at a tasting at James’ place courtesy of fbm115, thanks Steve. Pours a clear ruby and garnet color with a thin white head. Whisky and wine on the nose, grapes and toasted wood. The wood is very nice. Soft musk, very clean and cool. Medium bodied, barrel definitely coming through here, port and whiskey show up, playing nicely with the saison notes. Light sourness, not overly sour, but remarkably interesting and new. Very cool. jtclockwork (16600) - , New Jersey, USA - FEB 24, 2012
Bottle 58 of 59 thanks to Steve. Pours dark brown with tan head. Nose/taste of cocoa, whiskey barrel, toasted grain, port wine, sour cherry, yeast, vanilla and orange peel. Complex flavor profile melds well. Slight tartness. Medium body. Beardface (1517) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - MAR 12, 2011
Several glasses on tap at Sixteen Tons. Dark brown pour with a moderate tan head and almost no lacing. Light aromas of chocolate and smoke with a big peppery hit at the back end. Flavor is more pepper forward, excellent spicy bite to this beer. Possibly my favorite Upright beer thus far.

Tap. This is their six aged in a barrel with hot turkish peppers. This will be a component of their next turkey on rye I hear, the other component will be six aged with chocolate so the story goes. Looks like turkey on rye. Big tart aroma, rye. Sour, puckery, tart, rye, hits the back of the throat with peppers. This will be great with the chocolate, I think better than v1 of turkey on rye. Yum Yum Yum.
