Several glasses on tap at Sixteen Tons. Dark brown pour with a moderate tan head and almost no lacing. Light aromas of chocolate and smoke with a big peppery hit at the back end. Flavor is more pepper forward, excellent spicy bite to this beer. Possibly my favorite Upright beer thus far. leems (406) - Portland, Oregon, USA - AUG 21, 2010
Tap. This is their six aged in a barrel with hot turkish peppers. This will be a component of their next turkey on rye I hear, the other component will be six aged with chocolate so the story goes. Looks like turkey on rye. Big tart aroma, rye. Sour, puckery, tart, rye, hits the back of the throat with peppers. This will be great with the chocolate, I think better than v1 of turkey on rye. Yum Yum Yum. ericdevin (988) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - JUN 14, 2013
Draft at 16 Tons Taphouse. Pours a very dark reddish brown, slight tan head. Aroma is stunningly rich, red wine, port, boozy, roasty notes, candi sugar. Awesome! Body is lively, finish is by turns woody, sweet, vinous and bourbon. Brandy, too. Somewhat surprised to get very little if any of the nutty bitterness of Six, which would be my one caveat to an otherwise excellent beer. jtclockwork (17101) - , New Jersey, USA - FEB 24, 2012
Bottle 58 of 59 thanks to Steve. Pours dark brown with tan head. Nose/taste of cocoa, whiskey barrel, toasted grain, port wine, sour cherry, yeast, vanilla and orange peel. Complex flavor profile melds well. Slight tartness. Medium body. j12601 (13035) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - FEB 24, 2012
Bottle number 58/59 at a tasting at James’ place courtesy of fbm115, thanks Steve. Pours a clear ruby and garnet color with a thin white head. Whisky and wine on the nose, grapes and toasted wood. The wood is very nice. Soft musk, very clean and cool. Medium bodied, barrel definitely coming through here, port and whiskey show up, playing nicely with the saison notes. Light sourness, not overly sour, but remarkably interesting and new. Very cool.

750ml capped. Darker brown with loose off white head. Tart, raisins, bourbon notes, red wine, slight brown sugar, plum, slight tobacco, bits of cherry. Tart cherry, cola, red wine, some vanilla from mostly bourbon, bits of tobacco and brown sugar. Body is somewhat thin, but quite tasty. mcberko (18583) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 6, 2013
On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a hazy dark orangey amber with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out notes of port liqueur, whiskey, a little caramel malt and some rye still present. Flavour brings out a combination of whiskey and port barrel notes upfront, along with some underlying caramel malt sweetness. Not really much presence of the rye, except for the slightly thicker body. Very full-bodied, almost chewy, with great use of the barrels. Great stuff. Bottle at a recent Upright Sole Composition tasting. Served in a Mikasa tulip.
Pours a somewhat-cloudy amber-tawny color with a small off-white head that eventually fall to a thin cap, leaving behind a bit of spotty lacing.
The nose carried a bit of brown sugar and toffee with some light yeast in the background. Some dark fruit and earth character with just a touch of tobacco. The barrel character came through with mostly bourbon, though there was a bit of port in the background. Some raisin there as well. Long duration with a very light acidity and a touch of bitterness.
Medium body with light carbonation and a semi-dry finish. The barrel character was quite nice in this one and I really liked the finish, though I could have gone for a bit more port character. All in all, a nice and interesting beer that is worth seeking out. madvike (3292) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 25, 2012
Bottle 57 of 59 shared by Puddintane at Muckfest III...thanks Dave! - Pours rosy copper with a ring of white head. Plums on the nose, some honeyed malt, and a little warmth. Taste is honey bread malt, dark fruit, and pasty yeast. Slick and full-bodied, with next to no carbonation. Pretty decadent. JaBier (8178) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - JUL 29, 2012
Bottle sampled at Muckfest III. Clear red pour with a medium beige head. Aroma of caramel, malt, toffee and a bit of tartness. Malty and caramelly flavor with some fruit and a bit of tartness in the finish.
