Sole Comp. bottle 84 of 185. Pours a dark brown tinted black with mocha frothed heading. Smell is roast, dark malts, and oak. Taste is roasty chocolate, fudge, vanilla, black licorice and a bit of sweet whiskey. Oaky finish, but the barrel aging on this stout is very complimentary and not over done. Easy to drink ba stout.
Tasting at Matt’s; bottle 54 of 185mcberko (18557) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 23, 2014
Black color with quickly disappearing head. Roasted malt aroma and coffee, that’s not bad. But the flavor goes downhill: roasty, thin, alcoholic, highly carbonated, with salty liquorice, and no barrel.
750mL bottle, pours black with a large tan head. Nose is very chalky, with heavy roasted malt, not getting any barrels. Flavour is heavy on the roasted malt – rather overburdening – with coffee grounds, more roast, barely any whiskey, and more roasted malt. Wow is this roasty. Rather bitter and sharp on the finish. Kind of hard to drink, though not offensive. Wouldn’t have guessed this was barrel aged if I didn’t know. Very sharp, bitter and harsh overall. Not so good. madvike (3290) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 15, 2012
Bottle 86 of 185 shared by Puddintane at Muckfest III...thanks Dave! - Pours black with a thin ring of tan head. Chocolatey nose, with some whiskey and cinnamon. Taste is nice chocolatey malt, dark bread, rye, and light whiskey notes. Smooth and medium-bodied, with nice carbonation. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JUL 8, 2012
Bottle shared at MuckFest 3 - Friday evening addition. Pours a rich blackish pour, roasty, near opaque with a small frothy ring of offwhite near tannish head, dies down and laces small. Aromas are richly fruity, pear and apples, gentle citrus, touches of oak, brett, gentle spice, funk, cobwebs. Touches of toast and carmelization. Very funky. Initial is medium bodied, a touch heavier, with firm roast, toffee, and cocoa elements. Some sticky elements. Roasty, with some fruity wild yeast essence. Touches of grapefruit, tropical, touches of roast, coffee. Toffee, toast, and touches of oak, vanilla, spirit. Backend and finish offers roasty elements, coffee, toffee, and toast. Gentle barrel, funk, touch of tartness. Very interesting brew. jtclockwork (17070) - , New Jersey, USA - MAY 10, 2012

Bottle. Pours black with a grayish brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma has a decent amount of whiskey with roasted malts and some bitter coffee. Flavor has roasted malts and dark grains with backing coffee and whiskey. brokensail (16633) - Dublin, California, USA - FEB 22, 2012
The beer is almost black in color with a tan head. Really, really heavy on the roasted malt. A fair amount of charred oak with some vanilla coming through as well. Some dark chocolate/cocoa and only a mild whiskey aroma. Semi-sweet flavor with dark chocolate, roasted malt, and molasses being the main flavors. A little oak and vanilla and again, a restrained whiskey component. Not an over the top barrel aged stout, but I enjoyed it. boFNjackson (4201) - Portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 15, 2011
Tap @ Upright’s Tasting Room... Poured near pitch black with with a light tan head. Big and roasty, some alcohol heat but not a whole lot with whiskey or even barrel-oak-wood characters. Dark fruits, some yeast characters and lots of malt on this one. Licorice, molasses bitter-sweetness, toasted sweetness and some chalky ash flavors.
