On tap at the Grove Brewery & Bierhall. Aroma: Wood campfire smoke with nice caramel, bready malt balance. Appearance: Rich dark copper color, mostly still pour with a foamy tan head that settles into a sustained cap. Flavor: Definitely smokey, but not overbearingly so; caramel and lightly spiced bread show up more toward the finish, which is lightly bitter and dry. Palate: Light body, sticky texture, very soft carbonation, lightly bitter finish. Overall: Shows exceptional balance among American examples of the style. Very good, and recommended for fans of more traditional Rauchbier. gregwilsonstl (2499) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - APR 25, 2015

On tap at the source. Pours a cloudy pale brown with a nice off white head and plenty of lacing. Spicy, malty aroma. Sweet roasted malt flavor, mild smoked malt, bread dough and a slight pleasant sourness. Very good. chibuck (3513) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 21, 2011
draft... really light mahogany body, too light on the fringes... totally nailed the aroma, smokey pork, like a great german rauch, really impressive... the taste is a bit off, comes across generic, just didn’t translate

Draft. Poured clear brown color with an average light brown frothy head that was mostly lasting with very good lacing. Moderate to heavy smoke and toasted malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted sweet malt and smoke flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Complex good beer.

It poured a dark brown color with an off-white head. The aroma was fruity, malty and smoky. The taste was definitely smoky, but very good. notalush (5874) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JUN 10, 2011
Growler shared by beastiefan2k (thanks, Eugene) - oh yes, the aroma of this beer takes me back to my first experience with Schlekerla - deep woodsmoke and lightly caramelized sugars - creamy mouthfeel, smooth carbonation - Lightly sweet up front, but quickly becomes moderately bitter, with a mild but tasty campfire smokiness - becomes mildly tart and acidic through the middle and finish, which is a bit off putting at first, but once the palate adjusts it works quite well - quite a tasty smoked beer. kwoeltje (2233) - Manchester, Missouri, USA - MAY 15, 2011
