On tap @ Urban Chestnut. Amber pour with a white head. Lots of spicy, clove aromas. Nice banana, caramel, and a strange herbal note. Flavor has kind of a licorice/anise note to it. Lots of clove and white pepper. Banana, caramel, brown sugar, and dates. Interesting. decaturstevo (6343) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - JUN 30, 2014

Urban Chestnut does excellent German styles and OK other stuff. This is other stuff so it is OK. It is a hazed amber orange. It has medium bubbles and a white head that leaves sheets of lace as it dwindles. The nose is loaded w/ caramel and the banana yeasty character only seems to really come out once you taste it. This is rather sweet and thick rather than the lighter, creamy texture which would make for a more drinkable beer. The expression of cloves and spice is unfortunately a touch on the medicinal side. If this was a little dryer and the yeast character was a bit more vibrant, it’d be great but it doesn’t quite hit the mark when I tried it. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JUN 23, 2014
Draft on tap at the Grove Location (St. Louis, MO). Pours a darker copper brown hue, a decent haziness in the body shows gentle dulled glow on the bottom and edges. Cakey beige head atop stays as a nice firm layer, good stick around and lacing. Aromas are distinct apple, carmelized malts and biscuits. A bit estery, gentle toast and Belgian spicy yeast. Gentle dark fruit as we grow accustomed to it. Initial is medium bodied, carmelized apples, gentle banana and fruity life shows a bit of gusto. Almost tart, firm esters up front taper out to a carmelized and sweeter biscuit/toffee malt bump in body and flavor. Some warmth, fuzzy carbonation and earthy hops, gentle warmth and alcohol hot some ABV, spiciness and yeast. Spicy and carmelized elements, firmer yeast pick up the pace and run things in the backend. This is good, potent fruity qualities up front are a bit strong but the backend shows some promise with more integration of malt elements, spicy yeast. Pretty solid, the body seems about right overall. Potent banana and apple taper out showing that firmer darker slant malt expression, touches of lingering candi sugar and yeast. Nice. Especially considering it’s not really my style. deyholla (12034) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUN 22, 2014
