No nose. Body as expected. Black hop and IPA comes through. Medium body. Average but nothing bad.

Dark brown appearance, with a hints of orange and red when flashlight tested. Smaller, but stable tan head. Nice lace. Mild roasted malt and citrus scents. Hints of chocolate and herbs. This is one of those black IPAs that the scents do much for me. I know it’s not bad, but just my thing. Light citric sweetness in the front. Fairly acidic, I’m thinking from both the hops and perhaps some black malt. Fairly spritzy feel. Some coffee and dark chocolate in the finish. Linger is a bit bitter and acidic.

Dark brown/black color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of toasted malt, hops, cocoa/chocolate, & some citrus; Flavor of roasted malt, pine hops, chocolate, some coffee, and citrus; Finish is bitter; Nicely balanced; Pretty decent. crossovert (12934) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 26, 2015
Draft. This one pours a dark brown, amore malt-driven black ipa, imperial one at that, lots of roasted malt and cocoa. Decent though. BeerBunker (965) - Burbank, Illinois, USA - JAN 11, 2015
On tap at Urban Legend. Obviously not black, but. A very dark brown color with a small tan head. Aroma is very fruit with a lot of malt. Doesn’t smell all that hoppy. Taste is very malty up front, and then you get a very fruity hop character. Not bitter, just very fruity. Lingering fruity taste. After a few sips, a lot of toffee comes through. Mouthfeel is very sticky, but goes down easy. The hops are their, but they aren’t up front. Very slight alcohol burn. Good, but a little too sticky.

As reported below, it’s not totally black, but it is about as dark a brown as I’ve ever seen. Very nice head, and great lacing on the glass. I didn’t pick up much nose, rather surprising when I got some of it on my tongue. It has a nice balance, and sturdy mouthfeel. I’m sorry I only bought two of them when I was at Binny’s in the Chicago area. Cornfield (5570) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - DEC 30, 2014
On the bomber’s label it’s called "The Creature Black IPA." ’T’aint black. It’s got a dark mahogany body with a creamy tan head. It smells of citrusy hops with a touch of pine over some dark caramel. The flavor lightens up so far as the malt is concerned, some toast, but the brew is quite hop-centric. Pine and yellow grapefruit shine through along with a sturdy zest and crunched pip bitterness. I’m not a big fan of the style, but this Black IPA works for me... Still enjoying the prolonged bitter finish. Dfonorow (2216) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 27, 2014
On tap @ Beer Camp - Chicago. Pour is dark brown/chestnut with a medium tan head. Aroma and flavor of pine needles, light chocolate, raisin, and nuts. Alcohol is hidden well. BBB63 (6557) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - NOV 1, 2014
Not all that bitter but that is likely due to age, solid roast and slight chocolate notes over bready notes. Minimal char but there still are some fruity esters about. An okay beer that should have been drank fresher methinks. edwardbass (838) - Illinois, USA - OCT 17, 2014
Solid black IPA. Nice bitterness, a little dark chocolate and dark roasted malt. I’d have this one again, no question.
