More faintly hazy honey gold under a huge foaming off-white lasting head. Faint caramel, hops, some fruit and hardwood sawdust. Somewhat overly carbonated. Medium to large bitter spicey n’ yeasty body. Alcohol shows through fairly early in the piece and lingers into the sharp bitter middle and finish, with a sweetish aftertaste. Amusing at most, otherwise an average high ABV Belgian. RAUCHFEST (122) - PROSPECT PARK, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 28, 2002

Hops and spice in the nose with some sweet malt as well. Very nice. Pours with a hazy golden-orange color with a fluffy white head. Some spiciness in the flavor along with a full, sweetish maltiness. Some clove, some candy - bubblegum? Well balanced bitterness. Alcohol is well cloaked, but becomes apparent at the finish; and is definitely present mid-goblet. Good firm body and carbonation level. An exceptional beer in all regards. austinpowers (2828) - San Francisco, California, USA - JUN 12, 2002
Whoosh! This one’s a major foamer! Nevertheless, a very nice strong ale, and the alcohol is fairly well-hidden. Strong pepper, clove and other spice notes permeate this beer. Much like a shot of Absolut Peppar I once did in college (served to me by Ralph Lauren’s snobby nephew, Brad, BTW, but that’s another story). Very nice. JPDIPSO (6223) - Wauwatosa, USA - MAY 13, 2002
A good tasting ale. That said, Light amber color with spicy, almost weiss bier aromas. Pepper, clove, corriander flavors. Drier alcoholic finish.

Very cloudy with a huge head. Good alcohol nose and definitely taste the peppery aspect that legion spoke of. Good but not great strong ale. Could use a more profound malt backbone. heykevin (1281) - Decorah, Iowa, USA - APR 21, 2002
Strong alcoholic aroma. Honey and bubblegum in the malt flavors. Extreme alcoholic taste. Some sweatsock early that fades away but leaves a rather bad taste in my mouth. For me this is one to forget. npdempse (934) - St. Petersburg, Florida, USA - MAR 5, 2002
Pretty standard strong ale. Yeasty, alcoholic nose. Straw colored body. Nice (read: not overpowering) amount of effervescence for the style. Has a big bubblegum and cloves yeast thing going on in the flavor, and leaves a nice dry palate. legion242 (2348) - Richardson, Texas, USA - FEB 13, 2002
Cloudy straw color; Huge head with a ton of lace; Typical Bbelgian sweet nose- inviting. Spicy dry assaults you right away. Gets even spicier as the glass goeson. Almost pepper-like. Very good. Alcohol rises pleasently from the back of the throat. jbrus (4990) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - NOV 27, 2001

: Strong orange aroma with herbal hops. Hazy, dark yellow color, off-white head, good lace. Sweet, orange, pretty bitter, herbal. Alcoholic and warming. Bottled, Nov 01, 4.0
: Hop and citrus aroma. Beautiful foam and lots of it too. Orange/amber colored. Bit sweet, citrus and a light alcohol taste. Sparkling on the lips. Leaves a long lasting burning sensation.
