UPDATED: MAY 22, 2008 Bottle from Systembolaget. My notes on this beer were brief (that’s never a good sign). Very average bitter that gets lost in a crowd of similar versions. Malty more than hoppy, with a jammy earthy character. maeib (8749) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - MAY 1, 2008
Bottled. A murky mid brown coloured beer with an off-white ring of bubbles and some lacing. An earthy very English beer with some good hops and some fruity notes. There’s a slightly worrying tinny note, and obvious pasteurization, but it’s not too bad. DruncanVeasey (8401) - Nr NUNEATON, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - APR 20, 2008
UPDATED: AUG 6, 2010 Distinctive musty hopsack aroma (Goldings) with peppery hops, toffee and a background egginess. Sniff that. Copper with off-white suds and lace. Smooth and sulphurous palate oozing slightly orange-accented yeastiness, spicy hops, peanut butter and egg custard (YES). It actually almost tastes alive. Blindfolded, would swear it was Badger (the brewer). Afters long, caramelised, sprinkled with oaty biscuit, and sneakingly alcoholic. Drank this far too cold, and a lot of character still came across. As pasteurised English bitters go, hoppy, fresh and excellent. (737414).
(RERATE: Bottle from B+M. Copper with a huge, tufting bloom of off-white suds. Marstons-style aroma: raw eggs, dogs, wet dough..sprinkle of nutmeg. Utterly still with soporific notes of cherry, hay, mineral-heavy water and...yes, egg custard again. Astringent finish with a dollop of salvaging creaminess. Not good. Bottle: Deep red copper clear colour, with a nice creamy head. Aroma of toffe, sweet malts and has a nice hopy fruity ending. Flavor has a sparkling dry mouth feeling, nice hopy, and peppery. Som dry hopy mouth feeling, with a bit of dark chocolate in the finish. Thin body, but has a nice carater.thin to medium hopy/peppery finish. Nice beer! Bottle. Short and quickly disappearing white head. Clear dark brown body. Good looking. Weak fruity barley malt aroma with just a hint of caramel. Flavor is more bitter than expected and relatively tasty, not much caramel though. Low carbonation. Long bitteraftertaste.

UPDATED: JUL 16, 2009 Bottle. Brown color with an off-white head. Aroma: nutty & sweet malt, caramel, banana, butter, lightly roasted/burned.
Flavor: Toffee, butter, rye bread, lightly roasted/burned, grass, licorice, some metallic notes. Bitter finish. A bit harsh and not very fresh tasting. Re-rated 090716. Maria (10211) - Thisted, DENMARK - FEB 1, 2008
omes as Founders English Ale, I think it’s the same?
Dark copper with a nice, creamy head. The aroma is hoppy, and initially I get notes of blue cheese and vinyl, but when it warms up just a bit, it’s more gentle and hoppy with hints of caramel. The flavour is fruity, round and the goldings are noticeable. I also find notes of caramel and a light, spicy bitterness. 1883 bluevegie (3073) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - DEC 28, 2007
Nice amber coloured body with a mainly lasting light tan head. Some caramel on the aroma followed by some moderate hop notes. Light earthy hop taste , medium body and low carbonation. Not too much malt characters showing but a fairly easy drinking beer. OleR (4801) - Oslo, NORWAY - DEC 12, 2007
500 ml bottle. Lasting coarse off-white head leaving some laces. Body is golden brown with fairly high carbonation. Dry dusty and papery hop aroma along with subdued dry malts and whiffs of green apples. Taste is light malt-sweetness, earthy hops and some vague notes of roast and caramel. Not very mouthfilling. Dry and hoppy finish. saxo (19569) - Højbjerg, Aarhus, DENMARK - OCT 18, 2007
