I really have no idea who made the ratebeer.com top beers list, but I’m damn sure they’ve never tasted Uzavas beer. If they did, Uzavas would be #1 undoubtly. DREVIL1977 (2) - LATVIA - MAY 23, 2006 does not count
One of the best beers in Latvia, a little bit bitterness, that only makes a beer good enough. zziemelis (12) - Rīga, LATVIA - FEB 6, 2006
Golden, balanced and pleasant. With enjoyable taste of bread and favourable aftertaste. Worth trying when You’re in Latvia. If You can call this one ’typical’, please say ’typical BOUTIQUE beer’ - it’s produced in very small amounts and is definitely one of Latvia’s best draft beers. Cokemonkey11 (833) - - JUL 7, 2012

Bottle. Slightly hazy golden color. Aroma - balanced mix of hops, malt, nuts and bread. Taste is light sweet with a nice bitter finish. Light to medium body. Overall - much more than just another pale lager and one of the best beers from Latvia. Alusmamuts (1902) - LATVIA - NOV 9, 2014
Retrospective rating. Golden-amber ahzy with medium white cap. NIce balanced taste with mild bitterness, rich of nuances. This rating is for beer on tap, for unknown reasons the bottled beer is much worst. asedzie (824) - San Francisco, California, USA - JUN 11, 2007
UPDATED: SEP 4, 2015 On tap in Riga. Pours light copper with thick, slightly off-white head. Some lacing down the side of the glass. Fresh, spicey hop aroma. Doughy, musky malt. Distinctly smells of honey. Aroma is key here, taste seems secondary. Just wanted to stick my nose right in the glass. Flavor is bright, grassy hop bitterness. Aftertaste is prominent oily bitterness. Mouthfeel is fluffy and a little oily.
[re-rate] Bottle - expiration Sept. 19th marked on bottle, sampled Sept. 4th - brought by Latvian relatives visiting in July 2015. Pours clear golden with moderate white creamy head - leaving some lacing. - nose is distincy and unique- pleasant and pungent unbaked bread yeast dominates along with mild but slightly spicy german-like hops (not exactly german noble, but similar to tettnanger). Flavor is very good - earthy, and truly artisan tasting - somewhat ale-like esters give the beer body and a bit of roundness in the middle, beer begins crisp with leafy, herbal - whole leaf? - hops, has just a touch of malt sweetness and creamy texture in the middle and finishes with a wash of noble-like hoppiness - green, mildly bitter, palate clearing and a touch resinous - that lasts for minutes into the finish. - 4.0 fuchebu (146) - Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 23, 2005
This is a good drinking lager. I had it on draught in Riga. It reminded me a lot of the Sam Adams Lager. It had a similar floral hop bouquet and balanced flavor. Very good option if you’re drinking in Riga. KnutAlbert (6754) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAR 26, 2008
Draught at Alus Arsenalis, Riga.
Honey, malt, cereals, nuts. I would ordinarily say this was too sweet for me, but this one was seducive.
The Latvian brewers have a splendid way of brewing with honey that other countries could learn a lot from!
