Corked 750ml bottle. Nice dark mahogany pour, big fluffy cloud of beige head. Yeast aroma, caramel and brown sugar, prunes. Sweet burnt caramel flavour, a tangy citrus note, dark fruit. Soft mouthfeel with underlying small prickly bubbles, lingering tang like a fizzy candy, slight booze. Decent.

Drunk from 33cl bottle bought at Malting Pot in Brussels. Enjoyable dark beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Huge frothy head, long lasting, but not much lacing. Aroma: citrussy, fruity esters, some pepper/spice, also yeasty/earthy notes, some dried fruit, caramel and malt after warming up. Soft and complex at the same time. Tastes bitter-sweet with sourness from heavy carbonation to help balance the sweetness. Bitterness rather spicy than hoppy. A fairly light body, crispy and dry finish, pleasant alcoholic warmth. Wonderful beer, feels light for an 8% ABV brune.

Brune claire.

The beer has a delicious look. The color of the beer is beautiful brown in the naked eye and a nice slightly brown, but over all ruby red color. The beer pours beautiful layer of soft dark almond colored foam. A lot of the foam collapses, a tiny drape remains on top of the beer. The foam sticks to the glass nicely. The looks are great. The beer has a nice smell. It is a typical Belgian ale. I smell some nice aromas bittersweet roasted almonds. I also smell a strong alcohol aroma. The alcohol aroma gives a slightly sour and sweet stingy touch to the smell. The smell is a little mild though. The taste is also a little mild. There is a strong alcohol aroma in the taste, which give a delicious bittersweet almond taste. There isn’t much else, but it is enough. There is a sense of simplicity in the beer, that gives it is charms. A very good Belgian brew.

330ml bottle. Barely clear chestnut colour with huge, thick, creamy, mostly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white to beige head. Fruity aroma has notes of red and yellow apple, pear, hints of dried fruit, apple alike, sultana, a touch of red berries. Taste is moderately sweet, slightly alcoholic, sugary, hints of raisin, jelly baby mass, a dry, papery touch, hints of dried fruit, apple; slightly artificial fruitiness, minimally warming alcoholic finish. Unbalanced, sugary.

Bouteille. [notes 2006]
