Nevelig, donkerbruin. Schuim verdwijnt zeer snel. Aroma van gebrande mouten, pure chocolade, koffie, caramel. Licht bitter, licht zoet. Beetje droog in de mond. Medium body, medium co2.

Pours dark mahogany, huge beige foamy cap. Recedes slowly and leaves a lot of messy lacing. Spicy aroma, with some light fusels. Dark biscuits, tea, cocoa powder, walnut, dark sugars. Some dark fruit shows up in the taste, like raisins and dried figs covered in dark cocoa powder. Biscuit, brownie dough, splashed with some alcohol, hinting vaguely at fruit brandy. Abbey-style spiciness in the finish, but also some phenols. But it fits nicely. There’s a nice creamy sweetness, without being exactly sugary. Like melting Mexican sugar, but not exactly burning it. Aftertaste has even a faint bitter edge, managing to balance out the sweet bits. Alcohol sticks around, but it’s well rounded and smooth. As is the body. Some specific "Belgian yeast" (big esters and phenols) notes seem to overpower at times, but it makes it rather authentic in that way. A nice showcase of the style from a non-Trappist brewery. Quite good.

From 33cl bottle, as Maset Tostada. Pours deep brown worth beautiful reflections. Aroma is licorice, caramel, quite an alcoholic feeling. Body is average. Taste is sweet, but with some additional bitterness in the finish.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Dark ruby-brown, sediment, beige head. Pretty harsh aroma of dark fruit, quite boozy and gluey. Similar taste - dark fruit, super glue and nail polish. A harsher kind of Belgian strongies. 3,4/5.

Robe brune, fine mousse peu persistante.

Smaak ebt snel weg.

bartlebier (3815) - Belchium im Biersgau, GERMANY - DEC 1, 2016
Well-tempered on draught in Voerenstreekse B&B, overly chilled at Casse-Croute near source, 75cl bottle shared Thuis. - When poured on point, creamy, easygoing, yeast-subdued Belgian dubbel shining with lush caramalts, cassonade, roast bread crust and natural fruit caramels. Dessert quality, low spiciness, fruity yet non-sticky. - Odd absence of typical yeast esters and phenols - the home crowd will tend to see this lack of yeast complexity as a simplistic rendition of the classic style - but paired in perfect creamy unison with boulets à la liégeoise it hit all buttons, so I cannot help but hold it in high regard.
