UPDATED: NOV 26, 2017 Purchased at La Bodega, Grand Cru is a Belgian Abbey Ale brewed by Abbey du Val-Dieu and acquired at $11.99 a bottle. The scent of dark fruit, pear, and yeast are noted when you drink. The Belgian yeast is robust and creamy from start to finish. The malt character is rich yet fluid. An alcohol content of 10.5% is sensible with the fruity sweetness and a warmth touches your sinuses. Dark chocolate is comprehended but feels watered down. Dates sweeten the take and cuts through in the finish. Plum is subtle, and reveals itself as the alcohol expands in the finish. Raisins leaves an impression upon the mouthfeel. Pear is dominate right when you drink, but wanes in the finish. Green apples are sensed along with the pear. As the beer dissipates, green apple becomes easier to recognize. An anise spice is experienced from beginning to end. The sugary feel of molasses accompanies the spice bite. Cherry punctuates the finish and felt throughout the beer. Grand Cru is a very complex beer. The dark chocolate, yeast, and anise combination offer something new to venture. Dates and raisins sweeten the libation. Molasses brings a sugary feel to go along with the anise spice. Pear and green apples add depth to the complexion. Grand Cru is impeccable and pleasing to drink. This brew from Abbey du Val-Dieuv is another example why Belgians are the standard to strive for. Cheers. Prost. Drink for the love of beer. Colore marrone schiuma poco persistente. Aromi di frutta secca, prugna, malti tostati. Al palato uvetta, prugna, cioccolato, caramello, note vinose e legnose evidenti, zucchero. Carbonazione sostenuta, corpo pieno. Una birra in cui prevale il gusto dolce per tutta la bevuta.

Murky brown color with tan head. Aroma has some tart fruits, toasted malt in the background and some brown sugar. Taste is quite yeasty with fermented fruits, some spices, brown sugar and an earthy bitterness on the finish. Medium plus body, medium carbonation, well hidden alcohol. This beer has all kinds of flavors: tart fruits, sweet sugar and bitter hops but the combination is not very harmonious.
