The new masterpiece from the Val-Dieu brewery. A very complex and full-bodied beer with a long aftertaste. The brewmaster advises to cellar the beer for a year for it to unfold its full potential.

750. 06/09?. Pours dark w/ minimal head. Alcohol fumes mix w/ raw sugar. Complex yet muddled palate, still very interesting. The spices are there in the beginning but it ends w/ the yeasty sweet alcoholic Belgian vibe. It’s nice.

750 ml bottle. Hazy dark brown colour, thick off-white head. Sweetish, malty aroma with caramel and dried fruits, spices and herbal notes. The taste is malty, lightly toasted, sweetish, with prunes and raisins, dates, and a warm, spicy finish. Very tasty.

UPDATED: APR 5, 2018 750ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a slight cloudy ruddy-brown, small tan head. Taste is sweet with dry minty herbals, lightly phenolic spice, Toffee, dried fruits. Smell is minty-herbal and sweet mild caramel and alcohol. A bit simplistic as a fresh example, but there are complexities hiding in the malty coat. The hops do make it interesting.

Nice combo of rich country breadiness and spicy-fruity Belgian character. Nutty and vanilla more apparent on the second day. Likely a cellar champ.

UPDATED: APR 1, 2018 Dark brown with deer red tones. Nose of yeast and some bread with light herbal hints. Taste is fresh and with some hops and citrus zest. Palate rather dry but lasting.

750ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a deep ruby brown colour with a small head that reduces into a spotty film that lingers. I get a strong dark fruit aroma with some wine notes on the nose.Taste matches the aroma with some sweet toffee and caramel notes that has a well balanced finish. Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. High alcohol content is well concealed. It's one of those special beers that you want to drink slowly and savour the unique taste of it. Excellent brew.

Dark rich small-medium white foamy head, rich nuttiness typical of Belgian browns but nicer than most and a little sweet. I’d buy it again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a dark body with a thin head. Faint aroma of sugars and syrup. Sweet taste with a thin body and no real attraction. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Average frothy offwhite head. Good lacing. Mostly diminishing. Flat thick dark-brown body. Aroma: moderate malty, caramel, dark chocolate, cask wood, alcohol, solvent, aniseed. Initial flavor: moderate sweet. Final flavor: moderate sweet light acidic bitter; long duration. Palate: medium body, watery/oily texture, lively carbonation and heavy alcoholic finish. Aroma: The malt is rich and strong, and can have a deep bready-toasty quality often with a deep caramel complexity. The fruity esters are strong, and contain raisin, plum, dried cherry, fig or prune notes. Spicy phenols may be present, but usually have a peppery quality not clove-like; light vanilla is possible. Alcohols are soft, spicy, perfumy and/or rose-like, and are low to moderate in intensity. solventy aromas. (surge como defeito). Dulçor maltado, achocolatado e alcoolico. Forte aquecimento alcoolico. Moderately maltyrich on the palate, which can have a sweet impression if bitterness is low. Usually moderately dry to dry finish, although may be up to moderately sweet. Amargor e presença alcoolica se confundem. Toques amadeirados no paladar. O final lembra um pouco whisky, dada a queimação na garganta. Authentic Trappist versions tend to be drier (Belgians would say more digestible) than Abbey versions, which can be rather sweet and full-bodied.Esta, por ser de abadia, enquadrou-se no estilo. Baixa drinkability. O dulçor lembra ameixa fresca, bem como leve acidez. 130s
