Bottle at Noogfest Four-O. Pours amber with beige head. The aroma is butterscotch, toast, pine, and brown sugar. Flavor is toffee, pine, and toast. Not a whole lot going on, but satisfying.

Bottle at Noogfest 08 thanks to Beerguy101. Pours brown with a white head. Aroma of wood, spices, and caramel. There is a malt backbone of caramel and dark fruits, but is overpowered by a woody spiciness and bitterness that distracts. No much residual sweetness on this one. I also get some green apple and butteriness on the finish. Perhaps this bottle was a little off?

Thanks to beerguy101 for sharing at noogfest 08. Medium bodied, dry palate w/ some caramel flavors.

Old Headbanger. Fantastic name for a fantastic beer. Enjoyed this one while at the latest NorCal tasting and Steve dropped this one on us. A fantastic nose of tobacco, leather and caramel. The beer is the color of muddy water, a solid brown color. Flavors that jumped out at me were toffee, toasted bread, raisins with a healthy dose of sweetness which binded the whole beer together. I’d like to try this one again in about 6 months.

Tasted at the May Northern California Beer Tasting. This old ale pours a deep brown color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is brown sugar, caramel, molasses and some tobacco. A medium bodied old ale. The malts are caramel, dark fruits and sweet. The hops are earthy. Nice balance. Very deceptive at 8%. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Draft at Valley. Murky, deep brown color with garnet highlights. Low carbonation. Brown sugar and caramel aromas. Sweet and malty. Caramel, molasses and coffee notes. Fruity finish.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy brown with a small yellowish head. Quite sweet with some bitterness. Malty aromas of caramel and a bit of straw. Light hoppy grassy notes. Alcohol notes too. Hint of dates and dust aromas. Full bodied. Lively carboantion. Dry finish with long notes of residual sugars.

UPDATED: JUL 15, 2008 The nose to me was molasses, leather, malt sweetness, and I swear I picked up a hint of, soy is it? Very smooth and dangerously drinkable. Tastes labout 5-6%. Had again after a month or so and bumped .2 points up as it is melding very nicely.

aspidites (1272) - manteca, California, USA - MAY 10, 2008
Caramel and toffee nose with nose reminiscent of pumpernickel and toasted oak. Big yet soft nouthfeel that carries thru from beginning to end. Notes of toffee, raisin, oak, biscuit and malted milk balls. Clean and soft finish.
