Bottled. A pitch black beer wtih a tan head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and soy sauce. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt and soy sauce, leading to a dry roasted finish. wavers1 (916) - Notown, California, USA - DEC 10, 2009
bottle i had saved from the rbsg09 beer dinner. 12oz bottle that steve had brought along. pours a nice black with a 2 finger light brown head that is very dense and creamy, looks like a stout or porter. aroma is nice, lots of nice lager yeast, bitter hops, and burnt roasty malts. the mouth is very full and creamy, even for a swartzbier. a very nice offering, i would hope that they would bottle this as it’s a nice unique session beer! i personally like it better than the london tavern mild in that regard. A deep dark lager with a thin off white head. A light nutty malt aroma with light coffee notes. In mouth, a lightly smoked chocolate malt with mineral notes, some licorice. Not bad. On tap at brewpub, August 27 2009. beerguy101 (5360) - Newark, California, USA - SEP 20, 2009
Sampled during RBSG 7/10/2009 at the beer dinner. This schwarzbier pours a medium black color from the bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is roasted malt and some hops. Medium bodied dark lager. The malts are roasty, with a hint of chocolate. The hops are grapefruity(?). Nice balance. Good carbonation. Nice session beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

12 fl oz bottle, RBSG2009. Pours dark brown to black with a small off-white head. Dark roasted and slight hoppy aroma. Roasted malt flavoured and light hoppy. Mild liqourice note. Ends roasted and with a good hoppy bitterness coming through. SamGamgee (2452) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - JUL 25, 2009
Draught at the brewpub. Black with a small tan head. Light aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. Chocolate, dark roasted malt, sweeter caramel, and light licorice flavors. Low on the hops. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Didn’t like it as much as the regular black cat.
