Strong aroma, caramel taste rather strong on both taste and aroma. Also hopppy a bit overshadowed by carsmel.

Clear autumn maple red colour, with thick but weak caramel foam. Aroma is lightly sweet of caramel malt, rye beard and grains. Palate is full body, slick and creamy texture leaving weak rye bread finish. Taste is sweet of caramel and notes of dark rye bread, sunflower seeds, grains and light of raisins. Overall, very nice full bodied dark beer with notes of rye bread, do recommend.

Valmiermuiza Tumsais Alus: Look; good fawn head and dark ruby clear body. Aroma; dark fruits, dark malts, berries, floral notes. Taste; dark malts, dark toffee, grass, berries, flowers, basement notes - leading to a soft fine dark fruity finish with caramel and chocolate. Good texture and soft carbonation. A good brew. Appearance- Ruby Amber clear with thick caramel foam, aromas- malt, papaya, apricot, pineapple treacle and sponge, palate- medium/full body, light on the tongue, thinner texture. Taste- sweeter biscuity malt, burnt treacle with a bitter/ acidic aftertaste. Overall- very enjoyable but slightly too bitter/ acidic at the end.

Bottled 500ml (Stockmann Tallinn, BB 05/2012)
Deep ruby color, small beige head. Toasted coffeish and caramelly aroma with some diacetyl. Medium-bodied. Sweetish, chocolaty flavor. Toasted notes, light tartness in the aftertaste. Not much diacetyl in flavor. Aftertaste has caramel and some bitterness. Good German-style dunkel. One of the best Latvian beers I’ve had (the bar is not very high with Latvian beers).

500ml bottle from the brewery’s shop/cafe in Riga. Dark brown colour, can see the light through slightly. Medium fairly thick beige head. Roasty aroma with some nuts, toast and a hint of cherry and resin. Full body, short mild finish with a slight hint of alcohol. Quite a decent dunkel.

Quite week aroma. Tase is more intense, roast, woodden, hazelnut. Desolves quick. Dark amber look.

On tap @ Aussie backpackers, Riga. Redbrown body with a medium head. Roasted malt, fudge, almond, butterscotch, some earthy notes. Usually I’m not a fan of diacetyl but in this case it was quite ok.
