This rare and complex beer is slow fermented then krausened and later frozen for 45 days. Between 5 and 7 % of the volume remains behind as ice, leaving a deep ruby color, a remarkably smooth and slightly sweet warmth with a brandy like finish.
Using a signature blend of chocolate and caramel malts, this German Eisbock is slowly cold aged in their cellar for over 3 months.

Small bottle, courtesy of blomster. Thanks, Christer! Pours a dense, dark-cherry color; light-tan head that lasts as a thin perimeter of bubbles. Sweet candy and caramelized sugars in the nose; ripe dark-red fruits and even a bit of chocolate. Medium-full to full mouthfeel; lots of layers here: caramel and toffee, a meaty candied sweetness, and bits of chocolate and coffee toward the finish. Tasty, generally smooth eisbock.

Bottle with Rick. He's my secret pocket person. He's fun. I like him. Like I like the dark brown colour of this nutty and chocolate vanilla cherry goodness beer.

Gift from Bruce! Cheers! Served in a chalice. Pours an opaque brown with a faint beige head that disappeared very quickly. Aroma: grape, chocolate, caramel, roasted nuts. Palate: Thick bodied, filmy, long finish. Taste: Sweet. Strong caramel/raisins, strong burnt nuts in the finish. Pretty good.

Aroma is fruity with caramel, brown sugar. Full bodied, lots of flavour. Syrupy, almost. Some nuts, dark fruits, and caramel in the body. Flavour is quite sweet, but a nice clash between the booze and the sweetness makes for a good finish.

Poured from 341mL bottle. Deep rich brown colour with minimal beige head. Strong dark fruit nose (plum, raisins). Sweet dark fruit flavour with brown sugar and some alcohol kick to it.

Dark brown/maroon pour with creamy head and bubbles. Principal aromas of treacle, raisin, brown sugar, chocolate. Sweet, but doesn’t get cloying. Medium-thick, syrupy mouthfeel. Alcohol is totally hidden.

Marron foncé avec un nez de malt et caramel. Un goût de malt, un peu de sucre comme des fruits sechées.

sulawang (1210) - - NOV 9, 2012
pours dark cola brown, minimal head, thin creamy retention. Strong caramel malts on the nose. Drinks with a silky creamy mouthfeel, notes of chocolate, malts, coffee, 8/10-sweetness, tingliness in the mids, slight nuttiness and brandy sweetness in the finish. Medium complexity, med-high depth, good carry, good depth, good drinkability. Solid and smooth.

Bottle-coloured with a dusting of beige bubbly head. Port aroma of dark fruits with caramel, maple and a slight smokiness along with strong boozy background. Rich medium sweetness plays up a complex and flavourful body. Medium-bodied but sticky, like syrup. Mild carbonation and a long, rewarding, tasty finish. A perennial favourite -- it’s even possible I ranked this lower than it deserves because my expectations were through the roof.
