Tap, brewery. Nice clear dark brown body with a small foamy off-white head. Great chocolate and roasted malt nose with some sweet licorice and caramel. The flavor is a bit thin and husky, but there’s some nice chocolate and light roastiness. Very clean finish with licorice and light roast coffee. Clean crisp mouthfeel, fine fizzy carbonation. Nice light hoppiness on the back end. Really nice easy drinking beer. Came across much like a Schwarzbier. Moxen (5) - British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 13, 2013 does not count
No matter what time of year it is this is one dark lager that I don’t mind having a pint of. The coffee chocolate start with a smokey finish is always great. A great beer for all seasons! HeistAlmighty (1156) - Saint John, New Brunswick, CANADA - AUG 7, 2013
Sample at Picaroons Brewers Bash. This kind of reminded me of a lighter porter or dark German style lager. Roasty, a little bit of coffee and chocolate, but it had a rather thin lager body. Probably a better taste than the Guinness black lager going around now, but not as good of a body. downy_dav69 (60) - Ladysmith, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 31, 2013
355 ml. bottle, thanks Dave! Pours a deep black with a small beige head, and a watery texture. Aroma is smokey, roasted malts, and light chocolate. Taste is grass, chocolate, dark toffee, nuts, smoked and roasted malts. Palate is smooth, low carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel. RumRunner101 (918) - Alberta, CANADA - JUL 27, 2013
Dark brown pour. Aroma is roasted malts. Nothing too big or overpowering here, but decent flavours. Has nice lightly roasted flavours, nut, just enough hops for balance.

Pours dark with a little roast malt injecting some overall flavour hear. Not bad overall. Average carbonation, ok lacing and head. On tap at brewery. RD400F (226) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 5, 2013

Appearance: Black with a light brown head. Transparent? It’s a mystery....
Aroma: Sweet licorice, fruitcake, dark fruits, raisins...but it’s quite faint. Mostly dark malts but if you sniff, well, it’s there. That being said there’s loads of chocolate. Pretty complex.
Taste: Bittersweet, chocolate flavors galore, some raisin/dark fruits as well as licorice flavors. Pretty much mirrors the aroma.
Palate: Kinda thin considering all the flavours which is kind of a letdown. On the plus side there’s nothing I can find that’s particularly bad aside from that.
Overall: Pretty good for what it is. Got this in a taster pack and I’m seriously starting to doubt that anything else in it will be even slightly close to as good. I’ll see I guess!
Above average beer... toasty flavor. I wish I had a mustache like the man on the label. Drunk from bottle and a decent price (under $2). stantheman (1050) - British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 29, 2012
Bottle at Hops in New West. Lots of good head here! Very dark in color, with a little translucency about the edges. Well malted for sure, and it’s predominately smoky in character. A good’un , yup! RichardGretton (4770) - Leicestershire, ENGLAND - SEP 16, 2012
Head Pub, Victoria, Canada. Black beer with a strong head. The aroma has some hops, some smokiness but quite mild. The flavour is malty and roasted with a fair dry finish.
Overall a reasonable mildly malty and roasted beer.
