Very average tasting pale ale. Extremely light in color. What can you say when there are very few choices to pick from?
Draft - Light malts and caramel. Clear gold with a decent beige head. Light spice and grains and a malty finish. MarkoR (959) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 10, 2016
On tap at The Docks, in Victoria. Pours a copper colour with a medium tan head. Aroma is mild citrus, malts. Some caramel in the taste. Ok.

Tap at the brewery. Mild citrus, mild earth, frothy head. Just okay, not great. MarkoNm (2890) - Novo mesto, SLOVENIA - JUL 30, 2014
Pours a clear coppery/brown color, topped with an average light tan colored head.
Pleasantly malty aroma, complemented by some fruitiness and some caramel.
The taste is sweet and caramely, slight bitterness in the end.
Very enjoyable and easy to drink. BrewDad (5328) - Olympia, Washington, USA - JUL 13, 2014
The Great BrewDad Victoria Pub Crawl 2014 - Golden in color, clear with a thin head. Good pale ale with a nice balance of malts and hops.

Piper’s Pale Ale took me some time to get into, but as I have opened up a little to hoppier beers, it has grown on me.
Pours a light copper orange colour, one-finger head that recedes pretty quickly. Aroma is piney, slightly deceptive in that it smells like it’s going to be nastier than it actually is. Taste is crisp and pleasant, with an ample hop bite that does not overpower. Lingering bitterness on the palate. In comparison to other local beers of the same type, it stands between Phillips Blue Buck and Okanagan Spring Pale Ale in terms of quality; not as hoppy as Blue Buck (which is a good thing given that Phillips always overdoes it on the hops) but not as fresh-tasting as OS Pale Ale.
Overall, a good choice for the style, and representative of the quality of Vancouver Island Brewery’s tasteful restraint in their beer styles. simonblaine (576) - Alberta, CANADA - FEB 23, 2014
Lightly fruity and malty, pours brown with a marginal head. Taste is not offensive, I would have another quite happily. Effort put into this review? 2/10

Clear ruby amber color. Smells of mashy hops. Coin like metallic taste. Palate carries the copper metallic taste. kramer (6682) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 28, 2013
Tap, brewery. Pours a clear pale copper body with a small frothy off-white head, nice retention. The nose is floral hops with some dry toasty, biscuity malt. A light touch of caramel. The flavor is dry biscuity malt with some light English hops and a little residual sweetness on the back end. Mouthfeel is a bit clingy with fizzy soft carbonation. Pretty decent stuff, solid for the style. Mucca (27) - - AUG 17, 2013
Great colour, copper, which is unusual for the Pale Ales I've tried. As with most Pale Ales the bottle describes a "ample hop character" which I am unable to taste. In saying that, this beer is quite good, just mild and low hop flavour.
