COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sea Dog is an amber ale fashioned after the German Altbier style. Like a true Altbier, it is fermented with ale yeast, but at a colder lager temperature. This gives it a clean finish with no esters like a lager, but retaining the malty quality of an ale. Its deep copper colour comes from a heavy addition of dark crystal malt, and a touch of chocolate malt. Sea Dog is lightly bittered, so as to not mask it’s intense maltyness. Most of its hop character comes from a heavy dose of Willamette and Hallertauer hops at the very end of the boil.

This is a solid example of the German Altbier style. Good hop aroma leads into a deliciously balanced, medium body and finishes very clean. This beer has lots of flavour but is a very easy-drinking beer. Cool that they made this for the Canadian Navy Centennial... I don’t think a brewery has ever partnered with the Navy before!

Pours a clear amber color, topped with a tan colored head. There is a very pleasant biscuity aroma, some caramel and malts. The taste is creamy, with easily noted caramel and chocolate notes. A lingering caramel aftertaste. Extremely drinkable and ejoyable. One of the best lately.

341 mL Bottle. Amber body with a thin off-white head that settles to a foamy layer leaving some spotty lace. Aroma of sweet light malts, crystal malt, a little hint of caramel, and mildly pungent grassy hops. Flavor of sweet light malts with hints of crystal malt and taffy, a warm alcohol note, a grainy crystal malt and brown sugar aftertaste, and a clean finish. Delicious!

Pours a clear dark amber with a nice off white head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate and cereal. Taste is a nice caramel malt body, cereal, grassy hops and a nice crisp and clean bitterness on the finish. Nice altbier style with tons of Aroma and flavor, medium carbonation, not sure why why this is rated so low.

Got this is LCBO six BC sampler pack. Really love the way this beer looks. It has amber dark colour. Unfortunately, it has a minimal white head. Its medium hoppy with bit of a roasty malt. It has a medium bitter taste that does not linger, but lasts just enough to let you know its there. This beer really tastes great, but it really looses a lot on palate. While its body is medium, its texture is really thin and carbonation is average to soft at best. However, it has a great settle finish to it.

The beer pours a translucent dark amber colour with a thin tad head. Aroma is sweet malt, molasses, and grains. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is on the sweet malt with dark fruit, molasses, and grains.

Beautiful color and clarity with a surprisingly resilient head. Mouthfeel is very smooth and a nice clean finish. Not very much going on in this beer, but you could happily drink several in a row without tiring of it.

Bottle. Pours a dark reddish amber with a thin white head. Sweet aroma of caramel. Very malty taste; slightly sweet - notes of toffee. Slight earthy / sweet hop bitterness. Finishes with a sweet earthiness. A very good beer, especially if you like malty beers.

From the LCBO, in the BC Craft Brewers Guild Natural Selections 6-pack. Pours a clean deep amber colour with a nice warm frothy head, great retention and patchy lacing. Cereal nose with some oats and hints of chocolate and spices, hops. The taste is milder, on the malty cereal side as well, with some light soapy hops and again, these chocolate notes (which I have no idea where it comes from, but chocolate malts in an amber ??). Quite interesting, different amber ale, worth trying.
