Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient West Flanders Brown beer has found a new élan as a regional specialty under its current name: "Bellegems bruin". The main ingredients of our Bellegems Bruin are malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts. These are used to brew a top-fermented beer. Blending this beer with lambic beer aged in oak for 18 months results in this specific West Flanders Brown beer. Its typical flavour is characterized by a well-balanced, hardly noticeable sourness. This first flavour impression is soon followed by a second pleasant discovery: a slight bitterness followed by a hint of sweetness.

Bottle. Fairly clear. Dark brown, reddish highlights. Light head. Subdued aroma. Fruit character, low apple. Malty nose, low sourness. Low complexity, straight-forward. Malty flavor, light sourness. Some fruity esters. No real oak character. Simple, and nice.

(rouge-rubis, nez levure, bois mouillé, bouche acide acétique (18 mois fût), trop gentille, pas de complexité)

UPDATED: FEB 27, 2018 Brown/red with some thin light brown head. Mild sour aroma, a little vinegar, dark fruit. Really smooth, well blended taste of vinegary sourness and caramel malts. The most drinkable Flanders I've had to date.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2018 Beautiful beer, leaning toward brown for a roodbruin and with a lovely mild sourness. Not overly complex but very balanced with a great flavour.

Roodbruin bier met beige schuimkraag. Geur: zoetzuur, wat hout, licht vineus. Smaak: zoetzuur, licht vineus, lichte houttoets, wat thee bitterheid met citroen. Goede koolzuurprikkel. Medium body. Afdronk: licht zurig. Vlot drinkbaar West-Vlaams oud bruin.

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2018 Fra flaske. Dejlig syrlig bouquet med tørret frugt. Let og behagelig i munden. En anelse syrlig, meget balanceret. Hverken sød eller tør. Den mest letdrikkelige flemish red, jeg har smagt.

seynie (428) - Tienen, BELGIUM - FEB 12, 2018
UPDATED: FEB 12, 2018 Reddish brown with a small foam top. Sour and fruity at first, but shily. Some yeast and cardboard comes in. Tingling mineral finish, medium short. Some lettuce in the finish, fruit is gone.

lokis333 (641) - Birai, LITHUANIA - JAN 17, 2018
Clear deep crimson red colour with small-ish off-white foam. Aromas slightly tart of red wine and cherries with slightly acidic notes. Palate, medium-light body with good amount of carbonation leaving sweet finish. Taste, sweet of sugary sweet cherry jam and syrup with notes of light malts and brown sugar and honey. Overall, nice beer, really enjoying the flavours and sweetness of it, could do more on the palate but rather nice beer!

Glas, dark red brown beer, small head. Aroma is tart, malt, fruit. Taste is the same, sweet tart, aceto balsamico , caramel, chocolate. Not bad.

djoeye (5542) - Tromsø, NORWAY - JAN 2, 2018
Aroma; fermented plum, caramel fruit, fruit caramel, sweet prunes, sugared yeast, cherries and vanilla. Look; brown-ruby dark beer, clear, head gone before noticed. Taste; fermented plum, cherries, vanilla fruit, caramell fruit, sweet prune pudding... Finish; fruit soup. Feel; fruity (oh that was a surprise.....not). Overall; easy to drink, very tasty, fruit beer? Sour redbrown, okay. [33cl.btl 5.5% xp30.07.18 [email protected] [email protected] ] 7373'15
