Dark brown with orange highlights, and a small tan head. Nose of smoked ham, or BBQ-smoker wood, pulled pork from <, slightly sweet. Smoked, wood, quite dry (sweetness from the nose seems almost gone)-bitterish with hints at hops. CO² gives a slight acidic touch for perfect balance. Malty, but not sweet, a bit less meaty than the nose. Spicey finish, as pepper & horseradish powder. Very (surprising), carbonated MF, medium bodied, but quite slick - at the verge of fatty. Excellent Rauchbier - to be expected from the makers of the Echt V. Landbier. Ausgezeichnet, Sebastian! MoritzF (10199) - Ottobrunn, GERMANY - MAR 1, 2007
(swing top bottle) Hazy, reddish amber colour with a fluffy, slowly lacing off-white foamy head. Toast-malty nose with notes of caramel and a delicate smoky aroma, also a vague fruity aspect in the background. Light to medium bitter flavour, almost medium bodied with a moderately carbonated mouthfeel. Toasted malty taste, light notes of caramel with a present, but not dominating smokiness; malt-accented, smoky, slightly bitter finish with a light hoppy note. Very pleasant and rounded Rauchbier. asheft (3125) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - APR 13, 2009
Very smoky aroma with some esters and a little oxidized character. Cloudy reddish-brown under a white sheet. Bready and toasty malt flavour with a very subtle and pleasant smoke. Good balance with bitterness and roast. Medium body, moderate carbonation, though prickly. Almost clean, smoky finish. sunevdj (4143) - Copenhagen OE, DENMARK - FEB 4, 2011
Pours a hazy brown with a tiny off-white head. Sweet with aromas of smoked malts and leather. Light to medium bodied. Medium carbonation. Tiny hints of honey towards the end. Nicely balanced and clean smoked dunkelish beer. sebletitje (10477) - Enghien, BELGIUM - AUG 9, 2008
Pours brownish dark with a light brownish head.
Aroma is lightly smokey and caramel.
Taste is filled with smokiness and malt, leaving a tingly feeling on the tongue and palate. Lightly hoppy, aftertaste is light, smokey and roasted.
I was really impressed by the body of this beer. While I am not a huge fan of the strong rauch style, this beer had a lot of postive points to it.

Appearance: Light mahogany color with a thick, strong head on the top.

Aroma: Distinct smoked malty aroma with a woody touch.
Flavor: Some caramel sweetness shines through the smoked malty surface.
Mouthfeel/Palate: Medium bodied with not too harsh smoked edge. Rather sipper than quaffer.
Overall: A really pleasant smoked lager, not as unique as Schlenkerla’s.
Bottled, thanks oh6gdx! Hazy nut brown, small creamy head. Mild salami smoke aroma. Mid sweet with medium body and soft mouthfeel. Smoked meat and licorice, mixed with sugar and dough. Fairly low bitterness. Nice mid-intensity rauchbier, on the sweeter side. jonas (8277) - Garching close to the monks, GERMANY - MAR 15, 2007
Bottle. Red brown, nice golden brown head. Nice smoke and juniper aroma. Medium roasted base, berries and juniper, light honey - quite pleasant. Mellow sparkly mouthfeel.
