Blijft gemiddel hangen. Etiket is anders dan hier aangegeven.

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2014 One of those old-fashioned, if not historical beers which have been in existence longer than the brewery that makes them. Already mentioned in 16th-century sources and regarded by the early-20th-century writer Felix Timmermans as "the best beer in the world, as to no longer even look at wine". Again brewed since 1976, for many years now by Verhaeghe. Yellowish white, irregular head, colour a dark brownish amber with copper hue, misty. Sweet and sour aroma of apple sauce, grapes, mango, cassis, oak, balsamic vinegar, old red wine, walnuts, dried orange peel, tomato puree, fennel, mint, liquorice, cookie dough, iron and cloves. Tingling fruity taste with strong carbonation, sweet and sour as an old brown, bit vinous, citrussy, honeyish, bit woody, sourness drying till into the finish where some of the initial sweetness also lingers. Probably too sweet to be believable, but nevertheless a very interesting brew I enjoyed quite a lot. Unlike many other Belgian ales, thats for sure.

Ambre fonce, effervescence forte bulles fines, col beige moyen. De prime abord, cest le got de vieille brune qui ressort, avec les foudre de chne, les fruits foncs et lacidit en ligne de mire. Dommage ma bouteille soit un peu trop sucre. A laisser vieillir peut-tre...

Bottle from Geers. Clear red-rust colored pour with thin off white head. Aroma is quite pungent, cherry notes with quite a bit of vinegar, strong woody notes, a bit of carboard/oxidization is also apparent. Taste is sour, fruity with a stron oaky and earthy finish that somewhat overpowers the delicate fruitiness. Palate is med-light bodied with light carbonation. Decent, but a bit off balance.

250 ml bottle as Caves - het Bier van Lier. BB 15/05/2015. From belgianbeerfactory.com.
Clear reddish golden colour with a tiny off-white head. Sweetness, bad strawberries, vomit, caramel malt and mild metal in the aroma. The flavour is sweet berries, strawberries, mild sourness, strawberry jam and mild sugary sweetness. The flavour is surprisingly good. Rich and jammy.

Clear brown body, small white head. Aroma has caramel, sorbus and acidic metal. Flavour is very odd. Very sweet caramelly beer with sour apples. Bit like ones from grandmas oven, but with vinegar. No metal on taste, which is really great. Long lasting sweet aftertaste. Just great. Very sweet and full palate. Some strawberry jam.

Dark amber, white foam, medium carbonation. Sour and sweet. Aroma of lemon and sour apples. Well balanced. Good beer!
