Pours a dark rusty reddish color with a thick foamy head. Smells of tart cherries, apples, and fermented grapes. First sip is mellow with sours notes that are subdued and quiet, not “In your face.” Cherries, green apples, raisins, maybe a tad of brown sugar, all combining in flavor. Creamy mouthfeel, but slightly under carbonated. Considerably more sweeter than sour, the brew finishes well with a little stronger bitterness. Very Good. mwesth (279) - Skovlunde, DENMARK - OCT 28, 2004
I have had this several times before rating it.. Dark reddish coloured with a huge head. Lumps of yeast floating in the beer - just like an old homebrew! Very thick mouthfeel, almost like a good port or sherry.
A fantastic blend of sourness and a nearly cloying sweetness. Sharp, sour and mouthwatering aftertaste. Too bad it is so damned expensive in DK! Juggernaut84 (279) - Berlin, Berlin, GERMANY - FEB 18, 2017
Banan, melon, trochę zmywacz do paznokci. W smaku zaskakująco słodkie, ale kwaśność też jest wyraźna, dochodzą wiśnie. Bardzo dobre Beloved Beer (278) - California, USA - OCT 8, 2003
A lot of carbonation. looked like half flat coke being poured. I couldn't pick out a whole lot out of the sourness. I think i need more of this.

If you took a quick glance at the glass you might think little of this deep brown liquid’s appearance. Holding it up to the slightest sparkle reveals a beautifully clear vermilion hue that shines bright and illuminates the whole glass. The ephemeral off-white head fizzes off quickly leaving only a slight bubbly film that laces remarkably well in my trappist glass. The nose first reminds of a dessert wine, with plenty of red grapes and the familiar fragrance of Champagne. A distinct woody aroma builds the character of this beer and with the subtle notes of sour cherries and ripe strawberries create a certain complexity that unfortunately is diminished by the strong vinegar aroma. Fortunately the vinegar does not appear so prominently in the flavor. In fact the usual puckering sourness is considerably trimmed in this Flemish Red, making way for a surprising blend of sweet grape and apple juice. As the beer warms up, the sourness becomes a bit more salient especially in the increasingly lingering aftertaste. Brown sugar, vanilla and a burst of cherries and berries erupt on the tongue as it reaches optimal temperature. The palate is light and airy with just enough carbonation to create a certain volatility that lets this brew open tremendously in the mouth. Delicious and luscious, this an odd Flemish Sour Ale that is certainly better behaved than some of its more aggressive brothers and would probably be a good introduction to the style. Apparently it ages very well, so I hope to keep a few in the cellar and find out! MartyW (278) - DENMARK - APR 20, 2016
Red/brown with a good beige head. Instant smell of crispy wine, apples, fruits and sourness. Very sour flavour, vinous, dry end with a light bitterness. Hides the ABV completely. One of the better sour ales. morri (277) - NORWAY - MAY 3, 2013
330ml bottle from Vinmonopolet. Tiny off-white head which vanishes almost immediately. Dark red body. Aroma of vinegar and apple cider. Quite sour, and also sweet at the same time. Dry down the throat, which suits the style well. mreeves (276) - Sammamish, Washington, USA - MAR 19, 2004
Pours a brownish color, with a nice head and good lacing. Sour aroma, very wine-like. Looks and tastes like a red wine. Vinegary, tart flavor. Can't really detect any hops here. Good, interesting, but not my favorite style. HazelRah (276) - Summerland, British Columbia, CANADA - OCT 6, 2005
Dark brown with a thin but solid head. Sweet aroma carrying wine and pine. Flavour is tart, sweet, and smoky with a viscous mouthfeel.
