Have had in bottle several times, once on draft that was hugely diacetyl, and now this recent bottle: Pours brownish-ruby with slight haze and lasting beige moderate head. Mild, aged balsamic vinegar, leather, and cherry aromas. Some caramel and prune notes with well-balanced moderate acetic, some lactic and cherry sweet malt flavors, leaning toward vinegar. Medium
The rather sweet finish does give credence to the ’rumor’ that they backsweeten with aspartame (as does the subtle thickness to the back of the tongue that I feel around the third sip). There’s a latent dryness in which there’s oak and a hint of alcohol.
Vinegar and glue, cherries, up front caramel sweetness, complex packed with flavor, but too much glue on the nose. Towey1989 (2698) - Stoke On Trent, Staffordshire, ENGLAND - JUN 21, 2017
Bottle at Den Engel, Leek. Pours a deep brown colour with a thin white head. Aroma of plum, black grape, some vinegar, slight cherry, a little sourness and subtle wood. Taste of plum, dark berries, some black grape, slight vinegar, a little sourness, a hint of wood and subtle sugar. Medium bodied and an oily texture. A dry, slightly sharp, red fruit sourness on the finish. As good as Rodenbach but more softer and slightly more sour. Good body and lots of fruit. Very good. paulcliff (16) - - JUN 20, 2017
Aroma of a good Belgian Trappist ale, beautiful reddish-brown colour...just not a fan of sour ales. My palate hasn't matured to the point where I appreciate them yet I guess.

I am disappointed. It tastes like vinegar with sugar. Some red fruit wander in the background.

A little sauer but also sweet. Dark ruby color. Refreshing and subtle scent.
Really nice one. Tranquillity (2251) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 17, 2017
Bottle. Dark red orange body, huge light brown head. The aroma has grapes, oak. The taste is fruity. Very complex. jbman73175 (1) - - JUN 16, 2017 does not count
Fantastic and unique beer. It has a very bitter and sweet almost citrusy flavor. One of my top beers and one that I buy for sharing with special guests.

This Flemish red from Verhaeghe is truly unique. a wonderful oak and cherry aroma, with a hint of balsamic vinegar.beautifully sweet and melts away into a soft, sour cherry-like beer known as a Flemish Red. pjotrapostou (214) - POLAND - JUN 10, 2017
Ciemny rubinowy kolor, wysoka gęsta piana. Intensywny aromat owocowy, wiśnie, dąb, w smaku dość octowe, kwaśne. W posmaku wyraźnie słodkie, octowoac jest przełamana. W miarę picia wychodzą lekkie nuty rozpuszczalnikowe. Ogólnie wrażenia smakowe bardzo intensywne, całkiem dobre piwo.
