July 23, 2005. 3 oz. sample at Vermont Pub & Brewery, Burlington, VT. From cask. Very dark black; small head. Aroma of chocolate, licorice, and vanilla; hint of smokyness. Flavor smoky (?); vanilla and roast. Slightly thin for the style. Good; not amazing.

Had both on cask and keg. Better version number-rated. Massively better on cask--vanilla notes in nose, cream, coffee. Middle coffee with some oily fish notes (it works well), finish oily hops and coffee swallow, roasted aftertaste. On keg was thin and lifeless.

Eructoblaster (4330) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 3, 2005
On tap at the pub. Opaque black body topped with a thin but lasting beige creamy head. Nice coffeeish aroma with chocolate and roasty notes. Pretty well balanced taste that could be more complex. Good bitter/roasty finish with average lenght. Very drinkable stout.

On tap at the brewery: Black with a small tan head. Chocolate aroma, smooth watery mouthfeel. Starts and ends sweet. Fairly weak for a stout, but not bad.

3oz sample at the brewery. Opaque with a large tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate...lots of carbonation (?!) Strong chocolate flavor in the middle, mellowing to a slightly bitter finish. Too thin for a stout.

Sample platter 3oz sample at pub. Milky aroma with some choco/coffee notes. Pours typical stout color. Small maple in the nose as well. Chocolatey, thin, overcarbonated. More like a porter, and their proter is more like a stout. I double checked and the pour was accurate from the correct tap. Perhaps the lines were crossed?

Light malt aroma, Very similar to other Vermont Brewery beers. Extremely dark brown, almost black color. Feint roasted malty taste. A little more carbonated than I hoped for but could still use some more hops.

Near black body with little head or lace. Smokey roasty coffee nose is a bit weak. Dark malty flavors with a slightly dry bitter finish. Kind of one dimensional. Fair.

On tap: Pours a nice black color with a dense nitro head. Aroma is weak, mostly dry and roasted. Very little sweetness and complexity. Body is kinda thin, very mild, dry and roasty. Needs some more thickness and flavor.
