Hazy golden color, with a monumental head. Wonderful aroma: malt, hops, honey, coriander, fruits... Good malt, velvety, with a hint of sweet liquorice at the end, mature. A very good strong ale.
Creamy, pillowy head. Orange, lemon and herbs in aroma. Noted sage, thyme and perhaps rosemary. Mouth-filling tang. Rye(?) breadiness. Alcohol evident. Spicy finish. JCW (1279) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 9, 2004
I think this could be a like it or don't type beer. Put me down for liking it. It is one of the more unusuall beers I've had in awhile. Dirty or muddy water appearance with a moderate white head. Aroma is strongly honey with dandilion or a bitter flower scent. Yeasty too almost like bread. Flavor is moderate mix of yeast, bitter and sweet. Very interesting. Full bodied for the style. Moderately dry finish. Try one, let me know what you think! sayravai (4711) - Helsinki, FINLAND - FEB 15, 2004
Murky blonde color, big, lacy head. Yeasty, fruity and flowery aroma. Very fruity, sweet and sour flavor. A pretty nice blonde - wish it was summer!:) Eirikur (386) - hafnarfjordur, ICELAND - DEC 21, 2003

A copper body with a full, white head that quickly becomes an inconsequential layer of bubbles. Yeasty aroma of doughy bread, honey, perfume, musty flowers, apple, assorted spices and fig. Lively carbonation makes drinking this an interesting affair by tickling the tongue at random intervals. Sweet and dry in the mouth. The spiciness really comes out in the flavor, captivating the taste-buds and holding them as willing hostages. There is an unexpected funkiness that pleases me. An odd interaction of spices, hops and yeast create this juxtaposition of expected beauty and unexpected creativity. A strong hoppy bitterness in the finish. A dry, warming finishes, tops of this tasty and exciting beer. CaptainSecretSantaCougar was awfully generous this year. Many thanks. haukur (2124) - Kópavogur, ICELAND - DEC 12, 2003
UPDATED: JAN 10, 2004 looks good, smells good. Taste is quite yeaty with a strong spicy banana hint... other than that, I was a bit dissapointed. It is a little complex, so maybe I´ll re-rate this when I get the chance.. 3,6[re-rate]big duvel head, beautiful dark cloudy orange color, aroma is has a strong honey hint, maybe soft caramel or nugat ?? Taste is sweet, little spicy hoppiness with a sweet dry finish. This is very complex brew, and I cant find that horrible liqourice taste my friend Eiríkur is talking about, excellent stuff, I love this!![re-rate] awesome!!! beerslayer (753) - New Jersey, USA - NOV 23, 2003
I see I differ from other Raters but, I think this stuff is awful Belgian Strong Ale. Too sour, tart, and liquorice flavors. Finishes sharp, bitter, and sour. TAR (2802) - Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina, USA - NOV 17, 2003
Golden amber with tiny suspended particles. Dense gummy white head. Wafts of doughy yeast, cottony malts, peppercorn, passion fruit, and butternut squash. Gentle white grape notes and sugary esters. Slightly meaty and peppery with minimal hop character. Soft mouthfeel. Chewy and creamy. Mushy flavors start with butternut squash, lots of fennel, and a delayed, long, lightly acidic fruit rind aspect. Sugared table grapes and hints of peppercorn husk, phenols, and subtle spicy hops. Finishes with a slightly musty, sugary edge alongside an array of pale malts and doughy yeast. Lengthy funky character with a vegetal bitterness, peppercorns, meaty malts, and a dash of coconut milk. Yeast addition increases the dryness and imparts herb and chalk flavors. Though it might be criticized for its lack of traditional Blonde Ale cleanness, I say it’s extremely stylish and funky, in a farmhouse cheddary sort of fashion . This demands timeless devotion (and more I will need with her!) in order to fully understanding her beauty. CaptainCougar (7634) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - OCT 13, 2003
Pours a murky copper with a large puffy white head. Bready Belgian yeast and citrus aroma. Lightly sweet caramel body has a bready texture and flavor, is dry and lightly tart with a warming bitter finish. Good complexity throughout. A very unique and enjoyable Belgian strong. Thanks JPDIPSO!
