Butchers Hook, Southampton. From a brewery which likes to aggressively hop, I was pleased that this beer was allowed to show its malt character without having to battle with American hops - especially as there seemed to be some warning of hop bite in the subname description of "Piquant Porter". Easy drinking, smooth and flavoursome. Some of the dry roast coming through as a bitter contrast to the sweet fruit of the malt. I like dark ales, and I quite enjoyed this, though it didnt have some of the depth I usually enjoy, and there was a distinct lack of character suggestive of single use commercial yeast, and a sealed low heat fermentation.
