75cl bottle straight from the brewery. Pours dark ruby / brown. Big pale tan head. Nose is lactic sour, aromas and flavours are pretty modest and that’s a downside.
It’s different than the regular Generaal but it lacks the punch that other "special reservas" are famous for.
PS: I would love to cook carbonades with this beer.
Bottle 75cl bought at Diesters Beerfestival about 2 years ago. Pours nice hazy bown with a red glow and a big beige/brown head. Nose: roasted malts, caramel, sour, wood, port/wine licorice. Taste: soft to medium carbonation. Creamy texture, roasted malts, nutty flavour, earthy, slightly dry, some port/wine hints, caramel, slightly bitter, alcoholic warmth. Very well balanced! Bottle split at ChrisO tasting, London. It pours a dark amber / copper color with a small tan head. Aroma is tangy and musty, with light notes of red wine, dark fruits, light tart cherries and caramel. Taste is medium sweet with cherry marmalade, caramel and toffee. Light tart notes of lemon cherries and light vinegar. Light to medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, nice one Trappist1 (646) - Diest, BELGIUM - DEC 16, 2014
750ml bottle. Gusher. Brown color with a Brown head, huge foam. Nose:alcohol perfume, wild yeast, very strong nose. Taste:malts, wild yeast, bit of iron /fry in the back. Good to too much carbonation, bitter taste with a sour hint, all in balance. Hmm, this is already an older bottle, had the limited edition before, can?t remember it was so distinct on the wild yeast. Definitely a surprise. But not fully convinced that this is what was wanted for. Odd. Alengrin (5262) - BELGIUM - OCT 30, 2014
Vicaris Generaal in 75 cl bottles with lactic fermentation. Thick but quickly dissipating, yellowish beige head, pure bronze colour with copper hue, hazy. Complex aroma of walnuts, bitter chocolate, apple, white grapes, sherry, orange peel, wine vinegar, coffee powder. Fruity, sweet onset (pineapple, red apple), tart sour cream and dry sherry effect as in an oud bruin, deep nutty, caramelly, somewhat chocolatey maltiness, light roasted Scotch-like bitterness in the finish as in the regular version, with the drying tartness from the onset and some herbal hop bitterishness. Interesting.

Craig on Heat Tasting at ChrisO’s. Hazy amber beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is airy and light, mild fine carbonation. Sweetish fruits and floralness. Candy fruits. Touch of violets. Light airy finish. Fine but not special!
