3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
As bitter beers go, I like this better than the local Michigan bitter beers, but not as much as Fullers. A very nice beer, but extremely difficult to find anywhere but Australia.
Honey aroma. Dark brown colour with poor head. Nice honey caramel flavor. Good body with medium carbonation. jdpeebs (686) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - MAY 19, 2012
Bottle. I had this beer a few years back, I’m just adding it for my records, but i do remember that i didn’t hate it. i wasn’t impressed by it either. but better than your ordinary VB. RueBier (7) - , AUSTRALIA - FEB 8, 2009 does not count
Bottle; dark amber colouring. Short lived off white head. Watery and lacking alot of flavour but what is there is malty with a bitterness to the after taste. You can’t help but compare with VB whilst drinking and as this tastes better can seem a nicer beer than it is. KimJohansen (10510) - Frederiksberg C, DENMARK - APR 11, 2008
[3 years vintage - thanks for making this happen Anne] Deep amber with medium off white head. Sweet malty aroma with notes of plums and caramel. Sweet and malty flavor with overripe plums and caramel. Somewhat oxydized but otherwise ages very good.

Stubbie/Glass: Sh*ts on VB. darker thicker ’older’ looking then the reg’VB. weak malty smell. needs to stay cold to keep its taste, slightly water-malt, smooth with a great finish. mutant (854) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - DEC 23, 2007
Appealiing dark amber colour with a good off-white head. That’s the extent of positive things about this offering. Stale cardboard aroma. Tastes a bit sweet initially, then a short bitterness that quickly turns really nasty.
I took a lot of heat for my rather positive review of proper VB but I explained my reasons. VB is a decent pub beer when drunk cold. It is unpretentious and my dad put it on my dummy (pacifier) when I was a baby. The original Ale has pretentions, fails miserably and simply tastes bad. jkm (235) - AUSTRALIA - JUL 13, 2007
Amber in colour with a large white head which quickly dies back to a thin, but long lasting layer. A small amount of lacing. Low to average carbonation. Medium bodied with moderate bitterness. Nicer than the regular VB with a tad more bitterness and maltiness. Thylacine (526) - Tasmania, AUSTRALIA - JUL 13, 2007
375 ml bottle - Dark amber with a lasting off white head. Thin to medium body. Low to medium carbonation. Malty with a mildly bitter and slightly metallic finish. Better than the standard VB. strings (377) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - JUL 11, 2007
Bottle. Well waddaya know, does actually taste better than VB. Same sort of ballpark, just everything feels a bit more, um... rounded? Like you’re still driving a piece of crap car, but at least they didn’t rip the power steering, air con and various handy plastic levers out before they sold it to you.
