Pours a cloudy deep amber color with a small off-white head. The aroma is hoppy at first, then the malty sweetness begins to dominate the nose. Hoppy flavor up front, then switches to a malty sweetness that is very tart and ends with a long sweet finish. Very good, and would make a good session beer. I have yet to be disappointed by Victory. austinpowers (2831) - San Francisco, California, USA - OCT 25, 2002
So-so effort. Not the best in its class of Munich Dunkels - it's a bit too hoppy for the style. Schroppfy (2362) - Łódż, Warsaw, Poland; Michigan, Ohio, USA - OCT 13, 2002
At the Brick in DC. Tart, and sweet. Looks the part. Aroma kind of low, or not what I expected. RAUCHFEST (122) - PROSPECT PARK, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 21, 2002
what else can be said victory makes it we drink it truly better than that beer that begins with y and ends with g bonvivant (169) - Smithfield, Virginia, USA - JUN 7, 2002
A nice dark lager though not as exciting as a lot of the Victory stuff. Light malts with a decent hop presence.

Another fine beer from my favorite Brewery. Definitely a beer I can see myself drinking a lot of at one sitting. JFGrind (2074) - Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 21, 2002
A hoppier than your average Dunkel that makes a good session beer. ........ hennes (934) - Fountain, Michigan, USA - APR 21, 2002
Some sour wheatish, yeasty flavours predominate over a sickly, sweetish malt backbone. This thing is really weird and suggests that Victory is a mortal brewery after all. Actually reminds me of a pot of soaking dirty laundry. michael-pollack (4959) - King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 13, 2002

For a Dunkel this is pretty good. I would have liked it if it had more hop flavor and bitterness but a good malty brew, you will like this. I thought the appearance was pretty good for a dunkel, if it were any darker they would have to call it a schwartzbier but the slightly lighter brown color is suiting to the style. I have had other darks that werent as good, you need to get this one fresh, as i have had some other dark lagers like penn dark that were old and you can certainly taste the difference. A must try if you like others from Victory.
