12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Milwaukee, 11/23/17. Dark brown, thin creamy brown head, fair retention. Aroma of chocolate, roast, cherry. The taste is roast, leather, chocolate, cherries, vanilla. Thin, low carbonation, a bit of a lingering tartness from the cherries.

DATE: December 10, 2017... OCCASION: Browns almost get their first win, but fall to 0-13--solace in this beer? GLASSWARE: Maudite snifter... pours a velvet-black body with a thick, frothy finger of oatmeal brown head... lacing is picturesque loops of coral... cocoa, gingerbread, sugary esters, plum, cupcake, lactic characteristics with little or no cherry of note... sips with a thick-as-molasses seep, creamy through the mouth and settling with a sweet warmth... more on the finish--a chocolaty pudding eases the throat, with the slightest pitch of cherry cola, sharp and full-bodied... thick roasted malts present a baked dessertif that leaves a sweet rum... an enjoyable, slow-sipping stout that accompanies this sub-30 degree night well and right... almost could require a knife and fork for its digestion...

glennmastrange (2931) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - DEC 10, 2017
UPDATED: DEC 10, 2017 Bottle. Moderate to heavy toasted, milk chocolate and cereal for the malt, no noticeable hops, light dough for the yeast, with a note of cooked cherry in the background. Head is small, frothy, light brown, with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and heavily acidic and sour, then finishes moderately acidic and bitter and a touch sour. Palate is medium to full, creamy, with a lively to fizzy carbonation and a tart finish. Not bad, a little out of balance and a stretch as a Sweet Stout though.

UPDATED: DEC 4, 2017 Opaque black with a small, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Lightly roasted malts, chocolate, sweeter cherries. Came off medicinal.

It pours black with a dark brown head. Head retention is moderate. It has a deep aroma of chocolate and roast. There is a hint of cherry in the nose and a hint of cocoa. It has a very rich, sweet chocolate taste with a sweet of cherries. There is a moderate amount of roast as well. There are hints of vanilla as secondary flavors. It has a cream, moderately full texture and body. It finishes sweet. Overall, a good, flavorful stout that is a bit too sweet as the roasted elements mix moderately well.

Pretty good - somewhat mild, had some of that stouty roasted toasted action but not super heavy or gritty. Mouthfeel a bit smooth. Not overly sweet. I did not get a lot of the cherry.

Feel as if the name dies great justice. Would like to eat this with a piece of black forest cake.
