On draught at Winking Lizard. The beer pours a clear pale golden color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily to a film. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of grassy hops, fruit and malt. Light-bodied with an herbal hops character and notes of fruit and bready malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a spicy hops aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Draft (Tria Taproom, Philly). Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is light to medium yellow. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread), lightly to moderately hoppy (honeysuckle flowers, herbs). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. A very enjoyable nose on this one, very German without any American give-aways. Doesnt excel quite as much in the other departments, being a little watery and lacking in head retention and less than lip-smacking (but still well-balanced), but its a really nice quaffer that holds up to a lot of authentic Franconian lagers (and is better than plenty of them too). Nice stuff.

Tap. Spalt Hallertau version. Says its a Keller on the menu. Pours lightly hazy golden, small off white head, great lacing. Aroma is grassy, hints of citrus, grain, bread. Flavor is light sweet, light plus bitter, citrus kick over grass and grain. Light body.

Hazy, citrine. Light body with matching faint flavor, refreshing mouthfeel, long palate. Crisp, dry and very bitter. Yeasty, hoppy, touch of honey in background. Victory makes better pils. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Golden body with a frothy white head. Aroma of grass, toasted grain, biscuit and a touch of canned vegetables. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/sticky texture, lively carbonation. Taste of grass, straw, grain, floral hops and a hint of DMS. Clean, crisp, though it leans toward the hefty side, but not as much as Prima Pils. In fact, I liked this better than Prima which I need to revisit.

16 oz. pour at Holy Grale. Aroma: Thoroughly grassy and a little peppery; semi dry crackery malts are pretty dialed back. Appearance: Slightly hazy yellow pour with lively carbonation holding up a rocky white head; the head settles into a thin skin. Flavor: Very grassy up front with cracker playing a bit bigger role; cracker fades towards the finish, which becomes more peppery and very dry. Palate: Medium body, sticky texture, lively carbonation, bitter finish. Overall: An excellent American pils; definitely one to try if you see it on tap.

Spalt Select. Very earthy, a bit heavier body and more lingering bitterness than prima pils.
