Draft at the Grey Lodge in Philly. Nothing special here. Nice brown. Good malty flavor. Had a hint of hops. Jonathan3584 (323) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - MAR 26, 2005
On cask at Victory. Nice color. Good dry aroma and flavor. Very nutty and complex. This is a northern brown ale. Apparently so is Newcastle. Having them back to back, I don’t think I could tell. Maybe it’s just really great warm on cask, but I think people are shooting a bit low. DocLock (10830) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 22, 2005
Hazy deep brown colored with aroma of caramel malt, almonds, hops, and some cocoa. Tastes nut browny with hints of caramel, hops, and brown sugar in the finish. PWalk (337) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 18, 2005
A decent brown ale. Nutty in flavor along with some malt. Nothing in the finish though. axilla (962) - New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 8, 2005
Pours a somewhat cloudy medium brown body with a small, yet sticky, off-white head. Aroma is carmel and nuts with a very subtle hint of citrus. Flavor was semi-sweet carmel, nuts, dark chocolate, and oranges in the finish.

One of the better brown ales I’ve sampled in a long time, reddish-brown color, not all that much head though, very little lacing around the glass, not much of an aroma but did have notes of malt & chocolate, medium-light body, pretty smooth & drinkable, would make a nice session beer, nutty taste with other notes of chocolate & malt, balanced finish with more nutty flavors

On tap @ brewery: Slightly hazy caramel brown with a tan head. Aroma: earth, caramel, malt, nuts. Taste: light fruits, sweet malt, honey, grains, nuts, with a hint of roasted malts. Finishes sweet and malty. hopdog (12816) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 28, 2005
On tap at Victory. Poured a medium reddish-brown color with small off white head. Aromas and tastes of caramel, nuts, and bread. Light toffee in the tastes as well. egajdzis (6671) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 27, 2005
Poured a reddish brown color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of nuts, caramel, and light citrus (oranges) hoppiness. Taste was nutty and buttery, caramel, light roast, with a resiny, lightly bitter finish.
