Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victory’s Hop Wallop® Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewery’s entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October". “So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar…,” joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isn’t necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

Darkly heroic, Humulus Lupulus (hops) have empowered brews with bite and character since the 11th century. DirtWolf is a tribute to these untamed vines which rise from the earth with the voracity of a ’wolf among sheep.’ Hops have made an assertive comeback in American craft brewing. Revel in the best US varieties of hops, in their natural, whole flower form, as they bring a vital, pungent reality to the soul of a wild element in our dangerously satisfying DirtWolf. Cheers, Bill, Ron, The Brewmasters of Victory.

Nice hop smell- just like fresh hops. The grapefruit and citrus flavors hit you up front. There isn’t a lot of malt flavor, and I didn’t taste the alcohol, though I could tell this was strong. Not too bitter. Very good overall, but not quite up to lagunitas sucks or nugget nectar standards in my opinion.

Aroma is hoppy. Taste is medium bitter hops. Overall really nice balance and not too much alcohol.

UPDATED: DEC 23, 2017 My favorite IPA. Complex pine and citrus hops with a solid malt backbone, creamy mouthfeel and lingering finish.

Had the pleasure of enjoying this brew fresh on tap at World of Beer in Columbia, SC, great to be able to find this down south! Served in a snifter, this presented a lighter and clearer amber orange hue with a minimal layer of white foam. Upfront this hits you with a dank hop aroma, which however eases into more subtle floral hoppy notes, fresh and appetizing. The taste features a superior balance of hoppy and malty notes, with pine resin followed by caramel grain, other earthy and citrusy hop flavors, overall great hoppy complexity! I also like how relatively light-bodied and crisp this is for a DIPA. Finishes with a mild sweet floral hop bitterness that is a nice changeup from the initial dankness of the hops; no booziness at all either. Not the strongest flavor intensity, but again just features a great balanced profile with exceptional smoothness for the style. Without a doubt, this would be my new go-to DIPA if it were readily available, will be checking the shelves for the 4-packs of this! Stellar craftsmanship by Victory Brewing!

Bit of disappointment. In nose I can't detect IPA. So I checked BBF date, kinda year left but you would love to try fresh version of this. Anyways. Decent maltiness with some herbal hop leftovers, still decent pine kick. Light sweet with quite intense bitterness, bit juicy grapefruit. Decent as thirst quencher, but hops are faded

Aroma and flavor is pine/grapefruit, mild honey, malts and a long and bitter/warming alcoholic finish.

Clear orange to copper pour with a thin, soapy white head. Aroma is caramel biscuit and bready malts, light sweet citrus, some dank and spicy citrus hops. Pretty subdued aroma-wise. Flavor is toast, oily grain, deep citrus, a little dank, pine shoots, mineral and a tiny bit of catbox. Medium body, dry, slightly oily feel, a bit astringent in the finish, light to medium, sharp carbonation. Good stuff overall, could definitely use more early additions of hops though.

Pours an amber color with a white head. Aroma is floral and pine hops with caramel malts. Flavor is hops all the way but a little light for a double. Only a hint of some warming.
