Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victorys double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victorys Hop Wallop Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewerys entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October". So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar, joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isnt necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

Darkly heroic, Humulus Lupulus (hops) have empowered brews with bite and character since the 11th century. DirtWolf is a tribute to these untamed vines which rise from the earth with the voracity of a wolf among sheep. Hops have made an assertive comeback in American craft brewing. Revel in the best US varieties of hops, in their natural, whole flower form, as they bring a vital, pungent reality to the soul of a wild element in our dangerously satisfying DirtWolf. Cheers, Bill, Ron, The Brewmasters of Victory.

The layers of flavors that came from this particular Double IPA blew me away with Beautiful citrus style hops then lingering with a little Pineapple/Orange rind on the end. So nicely balanced of a beer. Ive found a new Favorite Double IPA!

(Bottle) Pale amber colour, slightly hazy, with frothy off-white head. Malty, hoppy nose with notes of resin, citrus, grapefruit peel, mandarin, honey and floral/resiny hops. Malty, hoppy taste with mandarin, tropical fruit (pineapple, mango, lychee), grapefruit, resin, honey and quite a bitter finish with lots of resiny hops. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness. Not really very balanced, quite bitter and a bit boozy after a while. But really tasty, with an impressive hop presence. Very nice.

Chapterhouse. Bra l med fyllig och rund smak. En fyllighet som vergr i en beska jag nskar vore ngot kraftigare. En fruktighet helt i min smak.

Bottle from Illinois brought back to Texas. Fairly clear, orange, foamy head. Some sediment in the bottom of the glass. Aroma is a bit old, some fruity notes, hops, Dank notes. Flavor is hops, dried leaves. Dry bitterness on the finish. New World hops. Not fresh hops, but they are there. Would probably be better on tap fresh.

Dark copper color with a smaller, dense head of taupe bubbles. Heavy lace. Sweet toasted malt aromas, with strong pine and very mild berries. Sweet start with pale malts and hints of rye. Somewhat prickly feel. Nice balancing bitterness that allow the berries to come back out in the finish. Even the linger has a bit more berry presence than I would have expected. Some spiciness, leads me to believe there might be some rye in the malt bill. Either way a tasty IIPA in my book. 2/17

This earthy, dank offering tastes like someone left soiled garden gloves in the tank. I am all for innovative beers but Dirt Wolf is an apt name for this rough, unpleasant beer. I am trying to think of a scenario where this would be the most appealing beer I could wish for. I am still pondering.

UPDATED: MAR 8, 2017 Solid old-style IBU-packed West Coast IPA, bitter hop forward and mildly ganja-ish. Starts with a slice of toast slathered with orange marmalade, then gains a mineral heaviness backed up by a grassy hop middle. Finishes dry and bitter, pinecone blending with lemon zest and a mild boozy punch. Tasty, and surprisingly deep considering the weak nose.

We chose Dirtwolf mostly based on its name. Pours with a reddish color and barely any aroma. Has a smoky, tangy, and slightly bitter taste that sweetens after a while... almost like a spicier amber ale. A beer that might be a bit unexpectedly complex but grows on you after a while. Perfect for sharing on a Thursday night while sitting on the same side of the bar booth as the man you love, who definitely liked this one more than you did.
