COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victory’s Hop Wallop® Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewery’s entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October". “So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar…,” joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isn’t necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

Darkly heroic, Humulus Lupulus (hops) have empowered brews with bite and character since the 11th century. DirtWolf is a tribute to these untamed vines which rise from the earth with the voracity of a ’wolf among sheep.’ Hops have made an assertive comeback in American craft brewing. Revel in the best US varieties of hops, in their natural, whole flower form, as they bring a vital, pungent reality to the soul of a wild element in our dangerously satisfying DirtWolf. Cheers, Bill, Ron, The Brewmasters of Victory.

12 oz bottle. The pour on this is a not quite clear gold with perhaps a lightly ruby hue. There isn't really any head to speak of, and the lace doesn't exist either. The aroma is very piney with some hoppiness and a nice citrus tone with it. The flavor is great. It's a nice balance between a bitter hoppiness and a great floral tone, while keeping the citrus prominent and a touch of pineyness on the back end. The mouth feel is good, coats just enough, and the aftertaste is rather delightful as well. Much better than I was expecting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear orange to copper pour with a thin, soapy white head. Aroma is caramel biscuit and bready malts, light sweet citrus, some dank and spicy citrus hops. Pretty subdued aroma-wise. Flavor is toast, oily grain, deep citrus, a little dank, pine shoots, mineral and a tiny bit of catbox. Medium body, dry, slightly oily feel, a bit astringent in the finish, light to medium, sharp carbonation. Good stuff overall, could definitely use more early additions of hops though.

Pours an amber color with a white head. Aroma is floral and pine hops with caramel malts. Flavor is hops all the way but a little light for a double. Only a hint of some warming.

Pretty average all around for a double iPa. Pours orabgish w/ no head & little lacing. The aroma is surprisingly light w/ just some malt coming through. The taste is mild but relatively smooth for The high avg. Ok overall.

APPEARANCE- medium dark amber color. NOSE- surprisingly mild hops, almost have to work to smell them. FLAVOR- malt forward, hop is lost in the dirt. NOTES- really subdued IPA for American standards. I applaud nthe effrot, but I don’t love the flavor.

On tap @ Church Republick. This is a blurry golden color ed one. Only a small film of a head on the top, whiteish in color. It smells kinda sticky and marmaladeinfused bitter. Peely and piney. Sticky strawberries and it smells kinda consentrated. Not bad. A little unbalanced and boozy in the tastes. A rush of citrus peel bitterness. Orange peel oily bitter like, a little unbalanced. Also, not the cleanest one this. Fear that might have something to do with the place. Nice and oily in the mouth and it’s just about average on the carbonation. Sharp boozy in the tail. Should probably try this again at another occasion. 14.06.2017
