A hybrid Bock-style beer brewed specially for Barcade, a combination bar and arcade with a focus on classic video games and American craft beer, our delicious and refreshing Fall Bockwards is made with a decocted mash of English and German malts, and hopped with German and Slovenian hops. Decoction mashing–a classic brewing technique that originates from a time before thermometers could ensure that the proper temperature was met–is common in many German and Czech beer styles, and helps develop the rich and complex flavors in this brew.

On tap at Dutch’s. Mostly clear red orange amber color. Thin off-white head. Leaves good, thicker lace. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, soft, lighter carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Interesting, the first time I tasted this (1st pour from the keg) I was very turned off. I thought it was close to awful... Very metallic, old-tasting. But now, 2/3 through the keg, a few days later, now that I’m really sitting down to rate it with a 10oz pour and notes, this is tasting significantly better for some reason. Drinking much more rich and robust. It totally got better (or maybe I just need a beer at the moment). Good light caramel malt, dark fruit notes, some nice earthy hop. Moderate sweet taste, light to moderate bitter. Lightly spicy. surprisingly solid heller bock. Wasn’t expecting to enjoy it this much, especially after my initial taste.

Draft to taster at Dutch’s. Looks good for the style; a mostly transparent paler burnt orange with eggshell lacing. Smells Of malt, grain, and lager yeast. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Underwhelming.

Draft at Dutch’s. Pours a clear amber color with a medium sized white head. The aroma and flavor have sweet bready malts, mild fruity character, light earthy bitterness. Pretty basic flavor profile nice for the tick, but I wouldn’t revisit this.
