UPDATED: SEP 1, 2014 Rerate 2005: Downgrading as I’ve found the head disappointing and overall the beer is less distinct than I may have thought originally. Smooth, leaves mild sweetness and dry hop bite.
Previous: solid beer, pretty good marzen
Rerate: 2014: Brewery fresh bottle the week of release. I think this beer really needs to be fresh. This bottle came across not as sweet as I remember, cleaner lager impact, malt forward but quaffable and improved aroma. Vac (2445) - San Diego, California, USA - OCT 9, 2002
Crisp clear amber color with a foamy head. Sweet well balanced aroma leaning towards malty. Sweet malt flavor with a hoppy background. This beer is smooth, yet oily. MaxPower (961) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - JAN 12, 2003
Clear orange-copper color, nice white foamy head. Has a light flowery and malty caremel aromas, sweet, balanced malts and clean tasting, light body, a little thin semi-watery mouthfeel, this is a decent oktoberfest, but nothing special. CaptainCougar (7133) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - JAN 4, 2004
Pours a clear copper with a thin white head. Sweet caramel malt aroma with some earthy graininess. Body is thin, semi-sweet, musty and dry. Could use a touch more hops and some more defined maltiness. YogiBeera (2569) - New Jersey, USA - JUL 24, 2004
Light orange color, nearly no head. Kind of sweet nose, also light sweetness in taste, weak malt.

Tap @ Victory. Clear amber/copper w small off white head that fell quick, no lace. Nose was light. Flavor was nice lt/med roasted amber malt w min hops. Just slightly into med bodied category. OK but not my style. Rather mundane. Are you sure this would fly in Germany? Drew (2411) - Kent, Ohio, USA - NOV 13, 2004
Clear copper with a short head and not much lacing. Doesn’t seem very carbonated, but it was giving me a gassy full feeling. Toasty toffee, moderately sweet, very short hop presence. Tastes like Fall. ClarkVV (6839) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - NOV 20, 2004
UPDATED: DEC 8, 2004 2004 bottle. Pours a red burgundy, dark cherry color, mostly clear with a small white head, mostly disipating, obviously fiiltered. Aroma of cherries, big yeast notes, light honey notes and slight bread dough. Also a touch of metal. Flavor is very fruity at the starrt with a huge yeastiness. I like the yeastiness but I’d like to see more fresh hops, it’s alot of light pale malts with a touch of crystal. Good, but reminds me too much of weyerbacher autumnfest, were they coordinating the brewing of these beers?? Could be (just kidding). Gorbalev (3000) - Ontario, CANADA - DEC 22, 2004
Bottle. Copper colour, frothy white head that dissipates quickly - quite active and comes back with a swirl of the glass though. Strong metallic notes in aroma (enjoy by Feb 05 bottle). Light bodied, some citrus and sweet notes in taste. Slightly bitter as well. Not bad, but I wonder if the metallic aroma fouled my tasting a little. Thanks for sharing jercraigs. zach8270 (4021) - Henrietta, New York, USA - DEC 29, 2004
UPDATED: DEC 6, 2008 [12 oz. bottle] Amber/orange pour with a very thin white head. Mainly malt in the aroma with hints of sweet and a touch of hops. Rather smooth flavor. The hops and malt are blended well and leave a very smooth malty aftertaste.
