3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Appearance: light hazy straw with a huge lingering fluffy white head. Aroma: fruity, herbal and feisty spices; sweet citrus. Taste: spicy and hoppy: cloves, parsley etc (maybe ginger?); warm alcohol; pretty bitter; some banana or pineapple. Finish: long, dry and bitter with the tiniest hint of sweet cereal at the very end. Notes: Clearly very complex and expertly brewed. Nice warming alcohol note without being overpowering. A little more sour/bitter than I like in my Tripels, but it really grew on me. Started at a 2.5 and finished at a 3.5 by the end of the glass. Good carbonation. Alcohol is well-hidden.
From a beer hawk mystery case. Pours golden with a thin head. Herbal aroma of spices and toffee. Taste of toffee, mild hops , banana , and spices.

Comes to me in a 12 oz bottle from a knowledgeable beer friend. He is less of a fan of tripels so I get the benefit of the try. Taking the cap off I pour most of the bottle into my New Belgium .47 liter glass. The liquid is a hazy light yellow-gold followed by a moderate volume, off-white head. Looking through the glass I see a torrent of carbonation. I lift for a smell, here is bread, yeast, white grapes. All leading up to a taste. Interesting. Immediately it leads with a spiciness. Then there is apricot , grain, biscuit, a small floral entry. The 9.5% abv is nowhere to intrude, far in the background. Warming up it improves. Not an earth shaker but very decent. I guess if I’m going to drink a beer with this high an alcohol content, I’d generally go for something a bit darker and meatier.

12 oz bottle from Total Wine. Best USA tripel I've tasted since my Belgium trip. Wonderful malt/hop/Belgian yeast balance makes for easy and pleasurable drinkability (but watch out for the 9.5% ABV). It's great to find a tripel that's not over sweet with excessive candi-sugar like many are. Overall, a wonderful salute to Belgian tripels!
