COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. Well be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, weve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, weve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

Bottle - Pours golden amber with a thick bubbly white head. Smells pretty earthy, with big yeasty malt and some juicy citrsy and herbal hops. Taste is pretty smooth and balanced, with subdued grassy/herbal bitterness, a decent light bread malt backbone, and a subtle yeastiness. A little watery, but a fine session beer. As always with Victory, feels quality and well put-together.

Bottle. Pours clear deep golden with auburn highlights and a white head. Nose has a nice red and juicy fruit aroma with pine and melon notes. Flavors have sturdy hop bitterness, resiny, piney, with sweeter red fruits, while a touch of crystal malt finishes. Its that finish that a bit annoying and unnecessary. Full mouth feel. A well done apa that id rarely turn down.

Acetobacter (816) - Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 15, 2011
Enjoyed on tap in a shaker glass. The beer pours a burnished copper color, with a low white head. The aroma shows fairly aggressive notes of west coast hops, with the piney, resiny notes of Simcoe seemingly predominating, along with lesser notes of citrus. Underlying malt aromas are evident in the background. The palate is nicely bitter up front, again showing a pleasant resin character that is unfortunately absent from so many examples of the style. Malt moves to the fore in the mid-palate, showing a nice toasted note, and a noticeable, if subtle, toffee note. The finish is clean and nicely hoppy; balancing the beer in a manner that allows it to be drinkable in quantity. Overall, a beautfully styled APA. Very enjoyable.

Pour orange off white head. Aroma earth, caramel, pine, floral, grassy hops. Taste caramel, pine, floral and grapefruit, resiny hops, not enough malt backbone. MF medium body light fizzy carb. Pretty blah.

THOUGHTS: Well put together. Nothing super unique, but would make a nice session beer. If this stays on as a year round beer it might be my beer of choice for hockey and baseball playoffs. It may not be great on paper, but it is great in the mouth. (Note: Three months have passed since I took these notes and I am halfway through my second case) TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, light, orangey gold with an average, off-white head that mostly diminished but kept a nice sheet. The aroma had moderate caramel malts; moderate to heavy tropical fruit, grapefruit, orange, lemon and lime hops; lighter pine hops; and light slightly funky yeast. The initial flavor was light to moderately sweet and moderately bitter; while the finish was lightly sweet and moderate to almost rather bitter with an average to long duration. There was citrus hops, tropical fruit, some caramel malt, fruit cocktail, shortcake, some pine and citrus rind. The light to medium body was like watery syrup with lightly fizzy carbonation and an ever so slightly metallic and ever so slightly chalky finish.

Tallahassee, Fl - ABC Liquors - Betton - 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark, murky orange with a nice soft pillowy white head. Fresh floral and spruce aroma. Flavor a clean, fresh delectable essence to it. A hint of citrus, some mint, some apricot sweetness all meld together nicely. Crisp, clean and refreshing. Mouthfeel has a velveety sheen to it. Excellent pale ale.
