COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. Well be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, weve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, weve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: Stone pint glass From: Holiday Wine Cellar Price: $19.99 for the 6-pack Misc.: Box said enjoy by March 10, 2013; Also a long and uninformative spiel about water on the bottle and not as much (really nothing) about the beer. Poured a honey golden, pale, clear color with two fingers of snowy, frothy white head. Healthy amount of thick, foamy white lacing on the sides. Good thick retention on the top as well that lasted throughout the pour. Smelled a sharp whiff of hops up front, somewhere between resin and citrus (grapefruit). The bitterness comes through unambiguously. Also lemon grass, hay and honey. Tasted the hops first like the smell. Got that mix of resin and grapefruit. Also some lemon in there. Cereal and light bread. Light body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Bitter finish. Just a really good pale ale. Will savor my other two in the Victory variety pack.

Wow, what a pleasant surprise! Pours gold with a white head. BIG citrusy nose. Taste is sweet, bitter, and dry. Theres a nice tropical fruit flavor on the back of the tongue that sticks around for a bit. I would say this rivals Zombie Dust for big, flavorful APAs.

THOUGHTS: Well put together. Nothing super unique, but would make a nice session beer. If this stays on as a year round beer it might be my beer of choice for hockey and baseball playoffs. It may not be great on paper, but it is great in the mouth. (Note: Three months have passed since I took these notes and I am halfway through my second case) TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, light, orangey gold with an average, off-white head that mostly diminished but kept a nice sheet. The aroma had moderate caramel malts; moderate to heavy tropical fruit, grapefruit, orange, lemon and lime hops; lighter pine hops; and light slightly funky yeast. The initial flavor was light to moderately sweet and moderately bitter; while the finish was lightly sweet and moderate to almost rather bitter with an average to long duration. There was citrus hops, tropical fruit, some caramel malt, fruit cocktail, shortcake, some pine and citrus rind. The light to medium body was like watery syrup with lightly fizzy carbonation and an ever so slightly metallic and ever so slightly chalky finish.

Very dry and slightly bitter. A very good pale ale. Full bodied and utterly refreshing. Another winner from Victory.

Tap; pour is honey golden with an average white head that retains on the average side. This brew has a nice floral hop note on the nose, with a bit of biscuits and a touch of sweetness. The brew starts on the sweet side, with biscuits, honey and florals rounding it out. Bitterness is subdued. This is a nice brew

Bottled. Best by 12/17/14, so this is quite old, oh well. Pours slightly hazy orange golden honey color, white head. Aroma is lots of citrus notes; orange, lemon, sort of floral resinous pine character as well, Flavor is still got quite a bit of a hop kick for such an old beer. Slightly glassy bottle taste to it, but otherwise, held up really well. Citrus hops, biscuit malt backbone. Very solid. Very solid APA.

on tap at buckeye beer engine 19Feb2012, nose is mostly hoppy and the color of the beer makes me think there is more malt here, and tasting reveals exactly that, in true victory form they balance the hoppy nose out nicely with some malt back.. this would do nicely on a brisk spring day.

UPDATED: NOV 18, 2014 An alluring aroma is backed up by the hop-forward full bodied flavour. An excellent beer that is closer to an IPA than a Pale Ale (to my taste at least).

Bottle into pint glass, typical clear amberish golden color with white head. Aroma of piney/citrus hops and caramel-leaning malt sweetness. Taste adds almost herbal note to the nice balance of caramel malt and hop bitterness. Light body, moderate carbonation, crisp, dry with lingering bitter finish. Good above average APA.
