Great IPA probably one of the best. Great amber color and light head. The flavor represents what an IPA should be. Perfect blend of hops and malts. I'm trying very hard to think of a better IPA... and I Can't! Sturgess (173) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 23, 2003
Hopdevil is by far the best IPA on the market. Victory's staple beer, very marketable, it's palate, flavor and overall impression is something to treasure. Kinz (3786) - Glen Allen, Virginia, USA - JUN 18, 2003
UPDATED: SEP 11, 2004 A bit too dark for a true IPA, but nonetheless a pretty ruby color can be found amongst the amber. Nice, diminishing off white head. Aroma was surprisingly malty considering all the hop-hoopla surrounding this beer. The hop aromas are somewhat earthy and piney, with some grapefruit on the end. Palate is nice. The flavor is initially rather sweet, quickly wrapped up by a fruity hop finish. Slowly becomes more bitter, with some juicy-fruit gum flavor as well. Good, but I sincerely believe this is a tad overrated. NOTE: Have had the cask version of this a couple of times as well, flavor profile is essentially the same, but the palate is a 5, and the overall a 17, knocking it up to a 4.0. Very smooth and tasty. UPDATED: OCT 14, 2003 Beautiful amber hue; this IPA is all about hops - suprise! Great balanced taste; this is at the very top of my list of IPA's; now that I'm in PA I plan on sampling all of Victory's wares. To use another beer's tag line in an appropriate place "it just doesn't get any better than this". egajdzis (6613) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 16, 2003
UPDATED: JUN 1, 2015 Poured dark golden color, with an almost yellow head. Citrus, hop aroma. Smooth hop taste, very well balanced!

This IPA moves in the direction of a strong ale rather than the direction of an imperial IPA, which is OK. Good head with great copper/amber color. Great hop presence with minimal bitterness. Probably not enough hops for you average hop head, though still a great beer. Now available in Oregon! BierBauch (784) - Cape Coral Waterfront Wonderland, Florida, USA - JUN 12, 2003
Not one of the best IPA's I've had and certainly nothing compared to some of the California IPA's. Poured a amber/copper color with very small head. Head dissipates quickly to almost nothing. Aroma is nice but more like an APA than an IPA. Smooth on the palate and slightly crisp. Flavor is a good balance but in my opinion just an average IPA. Also bottle could use a make-over. crazyvin (2026) - New York, USA - JUN 12, 2003
A deep copper color. A slightly off white head; that faded fast in the middle, but cliung to the sides of the glass. smooth and hoppy. One of the most hoppist beers i have ever had. A real sharp but pleasant aftertaste that last for several minutes after the first few sips. guzzler67 (1696) - Hanover, Maryland, USA - JUN 8, 2003
UPDATED: FEB 11, 2015 Deep copper color; good sized headand nice lacing. Citrus aroma with a distinct grapefruit quality. Spicy hops dominate the flavor , but there is balance in the aftertaste. Medium bodied, decently carbonated mouthfeel with an average length finish. This has been consistently well made over many years and remains a personal favorite. Nice amber hue with frothy white head. Potent hoppy, floral smell. Exhibits a strong citrus bitterness(but not overwelming).
