UPDATED: MAR 2, 2004 Holy hops. Perhaps my favorite IPA, at least to drink on a regular basis. Great in bottles and on tap. RERATE: I didn't lower the rating too much, and this still remains one of my favorites all around, it just isn't quite as good as I once thought. The hop syrup feel is oh so smooth, given that it tastes like pinecones. Relatively full bodied. Bitter aftertaste, somewhat sticky, finish is more on the malt side. I think I figured that since I rated this early on in my ratebeer days that it wasn't as hoppy as I thought, but upon returning to this wonder, but nope, it really has got tons of hops. Lovely beer.

IslandHaole (1268) - Misawa, JAPAN - JUN 15, 2017
Clear Ruby-orange colored beer with a creamy beige head that quickly fades. Layers of sweet malts, caramel, floral & pine hops with hints of oak barrel. Sweet up front, chewy candy like a fruit infused taffy quickly followed by the bitter hops, seems to become even more hoppy and bitter in the follow. Nicely done! Good feel and the alcohol is well-masked with just a mild warming in the finish. Dangerously drinkable.

Nose of citris and light caramel biscuit malts. Light toffee colour with thin head. Decent hop bitterness with some caramel toffee malt flavours present. Very smooth with good balance. Nice syrupy texture. Easy drinking.

355ml bottle (bb 3 Jul 2017) shared with mother at home on 30 Apr 2017, from Appellation Wines, Dalry Road, Edinburgh, floral, caramel, pine aroma, amber with a good beige head, fruity, toffee, viscous, sweet leading to a bittersweet hop finish.

I am not big on aromas, but this one has a strong pleasant, hoppy scent with a hint of fruit. In fact I liked it more than the taste - which was typical bitter IPA, with bitter aftertaste. Not spicy (though it claims to be). I don’t like spicy beers so this was actually a positive for me. Overall, it is better than some of the IPAs I have tried, though Troegs Blizzard of Hops has a better taste in my opinion.

Hazy dark ochre liquid, average head. Light, fruity aroma of hops. Medium body, strong carbonation. Taste is bitter.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass at Taco Mac in Peachtree City. The appearance is a slightly cloudy copper color with a medium sized off-white colored head. The aroma is citrus hops. The taste is similar to the nose, citrus and some slight malt in the background. An excellent IPA.
