Bottle from Cap Tap. Pours dark brown with a nice tan head and a chocolate and coffee aroma. There is a rich dark molasses and coffee flavor with a warm bourbon trail. Coffee stays on the palate.

Man was really looking forward to this after reading lots of rave reviews... I was majorly disappointed especially at the $19.99 price point :( Pours a slightly thin burnt umber with three fingers of rich khaki foam. Nose was coffee forward with some heavy booze and dark fruit undertones. Palate is thin, abrasive and very heavy on sharpie marker and burnt charcoal notes throughout. I couldnt get past a 6 ounce pour of this and I was excited to pound the 750ml to my dome during a stormy winter day at the office... I ended up corking it to see if it was just a bad day for it but the next day experienced the same harsh burnt aggressiveness throughout. Not my thing... and a super $$ bottle considering Victorys pricepoint across the board on its other offerings.

750 c&c from Cap Tap in Sacramento, CA. Pours very dark brown with a creamy/foamy dark tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolaty dark malt and bourbon notes. Full bodied. Creamy texture. Flavor is heat (but not terribly hot), silky chocolate, dark treacly malt, and coffee standing in for hop so far as I can decipher. Bourbon supports the whole thing, but its not harsh. Its pretty tasty stuff. The coffee is not overdone, but definitely present. Overall it seems to be a reasonably subtle effort. Tho the overall impact is impressive.

Not breaking a lot of new ground with a barrel-aged coffee stout but hey, theres a reason theyre so popular. Rich and smooth with distinct but not overpowering coffee bitterness. Does an impressive job of hiding the ABV.

750ml bottle shared with brother, thanks for the share. Aroma: nice complex coffee, vanilla coming from the barrel, subtle roastiness. App: dark brown, small brown frothy head leaving beautiful lacing. Taste and palate: full body, medium sweetness, light to moderate bitterness combined with a subtle spiciness. Overall: great beer. A tad too sweet and some subtle chemical taste but besides that its really well done. Really great nose of deluxe coffee. Great.

I typically steer clear of beers I think could even remotely resemble coffee, and being that this beer, called Java Cask, tells you up front thats what youre getting into, its not something Id usually jump for. But man, this beer is smooth and its good where I didnt expect it to be. The coffee notes are most present in smell, at least more so than in taste, and all in all, its a nice experience. Good beer, would recommend. I wish I had gotten to enjoy an entire beer instead of a small taste, because at 14%, this thing packs heat.
