Aromas of fresh brewed coffee, chocolate, vanilla, aged malts, bourbon, barrel wood, oak, toffee, roasted malts, caramel, raisins, figs, green peppers, foreign coffee, leather and dark wort malt. Pours black with a near non existent tan foam and subtle lacing. Taste brings intense roasted malts, chocolate syrup, dark cacao, dark chocolate, roasted coffee and toffee upfront. Mid palate leads way to massive barrel characteristics such as vanilla, oak, bourbon, barrel wood, leather, aged malts, leather and hints of coconut. Finishes very boozy with tons of bourbon and dark chocolate. Overall, this is a big beer with a very heavy barrel side to it. A rating.

2016 rendition. Boozy aroma. Coffee, dark chocolate and bourbon. Getting the job done. Smooth drinker for a big brew. Lots of heat up front, malt, bitter from hop? or the coffee, dark roasted flavor. Excellent balance. Feels more like 9% than 14+. Nice.

Nice brew. What generous head. Yep, nice brains son. Nice mellow sweetness and alcohol. The bittersweet coffee flavor lingers a bit but adds to the balance here. Malty chocolate and bourbon with a hint of cocoa, mild vanilla and spice. The bourbon dances about with the carbonation. Victory, well done.

Reviewed from notes. Split with Henry. We both poured into snifters. From my observations, the appearance was a dark brown color with a finger’s worth of off white foamy head that fell off at a mild pace. Light stringy lace. The aroma had a really nice blend of sweet and roasty coffee notes, espresso-like with some Irish coffee creamer, slight vanilla, milk chocolate, dark chocolate and some roasted coffee beans. Light toast and nuts also slide in underneath. Sweet wood further underneath. The flavor moderately leaned to the sweet side at first and then seemed to dive to the roasty side for a little bit before gently coming together after a little bit of warming. Mild aftertaste of the sweet coffee creamer, milk chocolate and dark chocolate. Finish was absorbent with the milk chocolate and ended up creating a slightly smooth sort of sweetness here. The palate was about medium bodied with a good sipping quality about it. Slightly creamy to the touch along my tongue with an ample amount of rugged roast harshness too. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt as projected. Overall, really nice imperial stout well worthy of having again.

Delicious. This beer has a light coffee and a strong flavor that is quite enjoyable. Does not taste anywhere near 14%.
