750 ml caged and corked bottle, 2016 release, enjoy by 17 NOV 2017 stamped on the label. Served in a DFH snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head that stuck around for a little bit. Theres a decent amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like coffee, bourbon, vanilla, roasted malt, oak and dark chocolate. For the most part I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some woodiness and a bit of coconut. Mouthfeel/body is full, its slick and smooth with a moderate amount of carbonation. Its not as boozy as I expected it to be for being 14.3% ABV. I thought this was a pretty good overall brew. Theres a good amount of barrel noticeable here, but its not close to being overpowering at all. Really nice imperial coffee stout, Id like to buy this again sometime. $16.99 a bottle.

Bottle from Cap Tap. Pours dark brown with a nice tan head and a chocolate and coffee aroma. There is a rich dark molasses and coffee flavor with a warm bourbon trail. Coffee stays on the palate.

Man was really looking forward to this after reading lots of rave reviews... I was majorly disappointed especially at the $19.99 price point :( Pours a slightly thin burnt umber with three fingers of rich khaki foam. Nose was coffee forward with some heavy booze and dark fruit undertones. Palate is thin, abrasive and very heavy on sharpie marker and burnt charcoal notes throughout. I couldnt get past a 6 ounce pour of this and I was excited to pound the 750ml to my dome during a stormy winter day at the office... I ended up corking it to see if it was just a bad day for it but the next day experienced the same harsh burnt aggressiveness throughout. Not my thing... and a super $$ bottle considering Victorys pricepoint across the board on its other offerings.

750 c&c from Cap Tap in Sacramento, CA. Pours very dark brown with a creamy/foamy dark tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolaty dark malt and bourbon notes. Full bodied. Creamy texture. Flavor is heat (but not terribly hot), silky chocolate, dark treacly malt, and coffee standing in for hop so far as I can decipher. Bourbon supports the whole thing, but its not harsh. Its pretty tasty stuff. The coffee is not overdone, but definitely present. Overall it seems to be a reasonably subtle effort. Tho the overall impact is impressive.

Not breaking a lot of new ground with a barrel-aged coffee stout but hey, theres a reason theyre so popular. Rich and smooth with distinct but not overpowering coffee bitterness. Does an impressive job of hiding the ABV.
