Luxuriously rich in character, this warming winter ale delivers over 10% alcohol in an oh-so-seductive manner. Deliciously fruity flavors lie under a bracing hop nose.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Pours a hazy, orangey brown with a small, off-white head. Fat aroma of caramel. Very solid and full-bodied with plenty of caramel and notes of overripe fruit. Hoppy - but not overly so - finish. 031206

As with the other Victory beers I’ve tried, this one is taking no prisoners. Hazy reddish orange colour. Big hop aroma. There’s a heavy malt presence in the flavour, but that nicely balanced by the orangey hops and the alcohol isn’t too overpowering. A nice drop. Bottled at the Green leafe Cafe, Williamsburg.

Geht in Ordnung. Hazy red-mahogany color; small creamy head; it actually pours not as viscous and more carbonated than expected. There is a good malt aroma, a bit nutty, honey too. The body strength is limited by the carbonation and medium-high alcohol perception. Good malt and caramel flavor, sweet but not syrupy, with a strong final nutty bitterness. Good and balanced beer, but not extraordinary as I thought previously.

Hazy copper color. Impressive hoppy aroma, fruity and flowery; wonderful malt, caramel. A bit oily, thick; it’s a malt juice! Nuts? Powerful, but well mixed, explosion of bitterness.

Tap at Victory, Downington, 27/11/13. Dark amber with a moderate light beige covering, good lacing ensues. Nose is dark toffee fudge, dates, raisens, dark brown sugar, light boozey vein. Taste comprises sweet cake mix, hoppy backnotes, light tropical fruit medley, dates, brown sugar, sticky stewed grapefruit, raisens, caramelised sugar, toffee fudge. Full bodied, soft carbonation, smooth on the palate with a touch of booze in the closure. Decent enough Barley wine, doesn’t carry as much depth as the oak version but the 11% is well masked.

Bottle @ Fermentoren, Aarhus courtesy Klimaet! Nice head with good duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are rich hops, caramel, fruits, malt and has a long bitter and sweet finish. Full bodied.

12 oz. bottle, pours a murky dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma of toffee, raisins, candied fruits, caramel and hops. Flavour is amazingly rich and complex - begins with very sweet candied fruits and toffee, with the hops kicking in later, and both a bitter and sweet finish. Full-bodied palate. Carbonation is quite high. Absolutely wonderful.

Heavy hops on the nose; beautifully balanced with loads of soft, chewy malt and flowering, citric hop. At times this is like bathing in hop oils, but the malt and alcohol re-emerge from their slumber to smooth out the edges. A well-named beer, not to be consumed in a standing position.

Red-amber color, small off-white head. Bready, hoppy and slightly fruity aroma. Full-bodied, bready, hoppy. Alcohol punch and sweet fruits (+grapefruit) in the aftertaste (together with hops). Nicely balanced, bitter but "not so hard to drink" barley wine.

Very rich ale by Victory. Nose and taste are sprucy maple and molasses. Rated 3/16/03
